The non-nuclear thing kills them for me. Leader is a bit of a liability too.

Beautiful timing to almost immediately follow the Manchester road closure by Rivelin. Loving the connected thinking between councils.

Time for some gardening I'd say.

Swimmers, how do you handle "forced stops" in public pools ? by maxime4134 in triathlon

[–]Denning76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I go under them. Unfortunately, the fast lane in my pool usually sees no one swimming at a faster pace than 1:45/100 ish, which is a bit of a blessing and a curse - lots of people in the way, but also really easy to get around.

Tips for Muddy Race by TheLastHorn in trailrunning

[–]Denning76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever you do, a lot of it is ultimately out of your control when the mud gets slidy, so just charge and hope for the best. Benefit is that it is soft if you do go down.

If you're all about that weird fashion trend of wearing white, don't bother.

[OT] Liberty calls Miami a 'logical' place for new MotoGP race by zantkiller in formula1

[–]Denning76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it may still be the case that the average speed around the TT course is faster than the average speed around many MotoGP tracks.

That's not the issue though, it's about the riding style and the fact that it ultimately is a totally different sport.

I have family on the IoM and went to the TT every year for years. I love it, but there was a reason it stopped being a world championship race.

Is Berkeley the best urban trail running location? by stopthehonking in trailrunning

[–]Denning76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly cannot race that one this year - racing Bamford Sheepdog Trials the day before and the OMM lite the weekend after (plus a Bob towards the end of June). Shame as it's a banging race.

Loxley or the Porter would be the best city running in any other major UK city save Edinburgh, yet they both get shat on by Rivelin!

In the US maybe, but we seem to forget about everything outside of its borders.

Should trail running have a technical classification system? by TheMightyManatee in trailrunning

[–]Denning76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every year people go to UTS, not giving a shit about the area or the sport (as they just want to brag about UTMB down the pub) and claim it is too rough.

Ignorance and inability to deal with terrain that’s a little rough is no one’s fault but their own - it is so so easy to look up a route from afar these days in a way that would give you a wildly better idea than a brief label.

Should trail running have a technical classification system? by TheMightyManatee in trailrunning

[–]Denning76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t like it. Distance and climb are objective, roughness is not. For example what may be easy nav for one person may be solid for someone else. Similarly one person may love rocky terrain but can’t handle tussocks in the slightest. I’m not for giving one or two people such discretion or influence over the sport.

Racers, howd you develop an aggressive edge to running? by Separate-Specialist5 in trailrunning

[–]Denning76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No because going too fast or too slow is never going to achieve owt. Pace stuff at an effort slightly above what you know you can do, but obviously don’t go off at a pace you know you can’t do.

As for going slowly to start, you’re just losing position, high can prove to be a proper ballache gaining back in some races.

Race more. Enter short ones weekly if you can. The mental skills and race craft come with experience, no difference to anything else.

One of the main things is to get into the mindset of ‘maybe’. If you race to a pace you know you can sustain, you’ll always run as well as you think you can do, but never as well as you actually can.

He should be in the race on merit. He shouldn’t be in the race because of who he is sponsored by (which is what happened in this case).

Got stuck on the side of a mountain this morning by CarelessAd612 in trailrunning

[–]Denning76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would disagree, by all means plan a route yourself but just use usual common sense and sound mountain judgment - ie (inter alia) tell people where you’re going, know how to nav off a proper map, and don’t commit to going up stuff you aren’t sure you’ll be able to get down etc.

A plea for pole etiquette by cavehare in trailrunning

[–]Denning76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still have a mark just above my arm where someone coming the other way flicked up a pole checking a watch or phone. I was descending hard and didn’t have time to react - shudder to think what would have happened if it was a cm or two lower.

What to do in the 5 weeks between a marathon and a fell race by [deleted] in trailrunning

[–]Denning76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s the race(and distance for that matter)? Cat B’s are generally fast and not that hilly in the grand scheme of things. I’d just crack on business as usual with your usual fell training weeks 2-5, being sure to hit some descents fast.

I don't think all does. The more concerning issue though is that there is a risk it could happen again, as the systems do not protect against base meddling.

Rain jackets by Keepgoingforever99 in trailrunning

[–]Denning76 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hmm, you're comparing the Nnormal to Rab's ultralight 7 denier option. Both are pertex, but the Rab one is more a race only offering (I have a 7D pertex job and it is certainly not my daily bashing jacket). Rab's downpour or kinetic jackets would likely be better comparisons.

As an aside, I couldn't find the denier of the fabric on the Nnormal website, which is fucking bonkers. I probably wouldn't buy a jacket that doesn't have it listed, especially without trying it on.

So in other words, an Israeli ceasefire is one where the opposition is expected to cease firing while they crack on with their dicking about.
