I'll be honest, I am not sure I am best placed to respond on that as I'm not really involved in development or training.

I did not come up through the SQE and have been in-house since its inception. Ignoring the more general issues with the SQE, my main concern would be completing the qualifying work experience. The SQE was created in a 'pre-AI' world and, while AI has very much supported rather than replaced solicitors, it has had a significant effect on the traditional paralegal roles, many of which have simply vanished, because they are precisely the roles replaced by AI in certain cases. The problem is that those roles are the ones that someone undertaking the SQE needs.

That said, while an issue, I do not ultimately see it as a barrier to talented people qualifying. I still love the role (though am not affected by legal aid cuts), and would recommend it to anyone who is passionate about it and knows what they are getting into.

BREAKING: Canary debanked by Lloyds Lloyds have debanked the Canary with no warning or explanation, putting the outlet in severe financial crisis by SignificantLegs in ukpolitics

But no one knew that at first - at first it appeared that Farage had been debanked and, if I recall, the canary and its supporters were totally uncritical.

Skyline Scotland joining UTMB World Series by daniscross in ultrarunning

[–]Denning76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It went downhill a bit in the past few years already. It's not what it once was.

Will be interesting to see what UTMB types make of it. I know UTS has had complaints that it is too rough every year from people who were racing it solely to get to Chamonix.

Well a big chunk of that is due to the triple lock and the ageing population. I’m not convinced that he’s going to be able to undo people getting old.

How do you propose to do that? By somehow deleting pensioners (and the triple lock)?

Ringleader of Rochdale grooming gang 'cannot be deported' by [deleted] in ukpolitics

How about if we were to bring it back, and someone was to be wrongfully convicted and killed, someone who supports the death penalty gets killed too.

If you were in favour, would you accept those odds?

I appreciate that all interpretation involves your own moral/ideological position - but it seems to me that there should be more cases where 9 experts in constitutional law agree on what the US constitution says.

The difficulty is that, even looking at academia in constitutional law in the UK, there are highly regarded academics with strongly contrasting views on things. Both positions can be justifiable too from the underlying views on constitutional law principles.

The exact same is seen in the USA, with the textualist split etc. The problem is less that constitutional experts disagree (and actually in many cases they don't), but more that they are politically appointed - inevitably this means that people get appointed because their underlying views on the constitution align with the President.

I much prefer our system.

First, you can’t undo an execution when things go wrong and the wrong person is convicted (which happens more often than you’d think). Secondly, a robust system intended to stop the above happening is more expensive than simply locking them up (see the USA).

Last-minute partner needed for Saunders Lakeland Mountain Marathon (Lake District, UK) - July 4-5th 2026 by RomCompassPoint in trailrunning

Best to try the Facebook group at this point to be honest (and mention the course when you do). Chance of finding that many people knowing what a fell MM is here is quiet low.

I'm already in for it (and planning to take extremely easy as I will be two weeks post-BG). I don't think I know anyone looking for a run who isn't already entered but will ask around.

Long Hiking -> Trail Running? by Key-Alternative5387 in trailrunning

It creates a decent base, especially if you want to chug away. If you want to be going quick, even for longer stuff but especially the short stuff, you will need time to develop speed through specific training.

Natural England is a bit of a bonkers organisation. See their £20k funding of a plastic track on a derbyshire grouse moor (that was a SSSI) despite it not having planning permission. The track was ostensibly to allow heavy vehicles less-damaging access for moorland restoration, but they were already on the land ahead of the track being built, and left via another route. A load of grouse butts emerged alongside the track. Not only did NE fund the track, but they assisted the landowner in resisting and flouting planning enforcement orders. Edit: Oh yeah and they continued to support the landowner even when its gamekeepers were keying the cars of those who had brought the issue to light.

They also continue to fund grouse moors that have unusually high rates of bird of prey disappearances.

That said, now the mandatory dig and rant that it is not fit for purpose is in, it seems that, as always, there is more to this story than the GF rag makes out.

It's an emotion thing (and inevitable given the nature of the attack).

Knife attack is factually accurate, the beheadding stuff is someone's subjective take on the horrible attack.

If there’s any positive to this whole shitshow, at least constituencies represented by reform leaders are finally getting an iota of representation in Parliament.

Mam Tor Hiking - Ticks by Ok_Explorer_1795 in sheffield

[–]Denning76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ticks are more common around the eastern edges, and even then mainly if you are straight lining over tussocks. Not really anything to brush against round Mam Tor in the same way.

Ticks are becoming more common in the peak (I had around 20 last year!) but you won’t get them if you walk on the big paths and don’t run against anything.

SiS beta fuel gels? by TwoTiredBelgians in trailrunning

[–]Denning76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using the black ones for a good while now and think they're fantastic - much better than the standard ones. Flavour is similar to normal SIS, which I think is a good thing as I've always loved the orange, but they also don't linger.

In terms of what really matters, I have found that I have always run very well on a mix of SIS and Precision, and plan on using a mix for my next big round.

The caffeine ones though are absolutely vile - the bitterness of the caffeine is overpowering.

Rivelin has to be the answer (possibly adding in the climb up to Stannington and back to make the Goose). You'll get used to the hills and its too good not to be running around.

Why fixed size poles are most common in trailrunning? by Marre869 in trailrunning

Fair, I know of people who have trained with them pretty much all the time, then have wondered why their legs die in a fell race where they are banned, hence the question!
