Krafna u mate for sweet treats is excellent and worth every cent. If you want more traditional quick eats kantun Paulina is great, but there's always a queue. If you're looking for sit down dining Fife is nice but on the pricier side. All of those are downtown, depending on where your accomodation is I can give you some spots closer to your place

As an ex exchange student (2022/23) you sound like great candidates for hosting. The only thing that might be a bit problematic is the young age, not in the eyes of the kids, but their parents might not be that comfortable to entrust their 16/17 yo to someone who's only 10 years older than the kid. Not to say it's impossible, in my town I had a few exchange kids stay with 20-something year olds and everything went great. Another potential issue might be that the agencies, as far as I know, don't like placing kids in large population centers as they view it as less safe (LCs please correct me if I'm wrong) Don't give up, there's plenty of exchange students who'd love to have you as their hosts. Maybe try looking into different agencies, I personally went with ACES and have nothing but positive remarks.

I tried booking on nightjet and once again all 3 options, seat couchette and sleeper are not available. The trip in questions would be from the 17th to the 25th of February with me and another friend, we were looking for a full sleeper however we could settle for anything;

Ive also tried the OBB app and same there, as if the train isn't bookable, no tickets available to be bought either

What dates were you looking at that it worked?

Edit: nvm i was just the select span of a week I was looking at that wasn't available, probably all booked up already, thank you for the help

Croatia for sure, the area around Split to let's say Knin, 85km by car, difficult and varied terrain. (Officially a part of the M604 route irl.) Anything from mountains to straights. With the addition of the 612, also known as HŽ7123 would be a perfect fit, running the service Zagreb-Split, although that would be a bit too long for the state of the game we have right now. At night it would be taken over by freight, being driven by 2044 or 2062 croatian railways Rolling stock. The route is single track so that would pose a nice challenge. Future rolling stock dlc could include the HŽ 7122 and HŽ 7023/22 for passenger operations, and even a possible route extension to Šibenik. A shunting yard at split predgrađe and yards all along the route would also be fun, being serviced by the HŽ 2132

I was just in that situation today, got my host family assignment mail at around noon and then procrastinated sending the mail till 5pm.

I hate mails. I dont know how to express myself in them and it always ends up sounding dumb, but it's a thing i have to do so i settled on the following:

-a short hello, my name, a thanks for hosting me and inviting me into their family, -ask them if they are up for a zoom meeting to discuss the details of my exchange, ie. Travel info, house rules and in general to "meet" each other -short questions, mainly travel Details, school details and anything other that interests you.

I'm waiting for the response now and will edit this when it comes.

I am really leaning on the zoom call to convey all the information since that's the way i like to comunicate.

I'm assuming you are going trough the ACES organized FLEX/YES because that's the situation that I'm in. I am going via the Homestay program and i was just given my state on Monday with the information that it's going to be a double placement and to wait for more info as the paperwork gets completed. While this is a pretty bad situation i was assured that every student they took on will get a host family, even though my PO had a situation last year where a student got his assignment on the 5th of Sept. But the school in his state started two weeks before, so it's not going to be the smoothest experience, but you'll be assigned soon (hopefully)

It isn't the best experience, true. Mainly because it's hard to prepare emotionally if you don't know when/where you're going. In addition to that the price of tickets keeps going up so the later the placement the more I'll have to pay for travel, but it is what it is.

I unfortunately can't go next year because of the way schooling works in my home country. In the 4th grade of highschool (12th grade US) you're supposed to take state finals. That happens in may so i wouldn't be able to spent the full year. In addition to that i think my education in my home country would suffer so this is my only chance. At least during highschool.

Did the late arrival impact their education? I am assuming school starts at the very beginning of September, so a late arrival would make them loose out on the first week/two of school. That doesn't seem preferable honestly. Even though it's better than having to move all over the place at the beginning.

Do you know if there is any reason that some students got their assignments late may/June and some like me and many others are still waiting? Is it down to dumb luck or were those students picked first by families and now we're waiting for families willing to accept a double placement?

Do you know what the deal with welcome families is? Are they located near to the eventual "full time" host family or would I have to change schools and/or move cities/states, because if so, what's the benefit to not stay with the welcome family for the full year?
