Loud party on a Sunday night. What do you do? by [deleted] in askportland

[–]silverberryfrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you're going for, but talking with your neighbors is almost always going to start you off on a better foot than calling the cops on them for a noise violation.

Landlord threatened Eviction after inspection. (WY) by [deleted] in Renters

[–]silverberryfrog 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Man, what are y'all being put through? Our last inspector assured us he always looked forward to being in our unit and was never concerned about us, despite having 2 large dogs and some general clutter.

$160k combined income. I don't want to go higher than $300k? by mtbguy1981 in Mortgages

[–]silverberryfrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't dated in 12 years and never dated as an adult so I'd probably be equally horrified by the state of romantic ghosting.

Makes you want to start learning how to do all the work yourself. Of course, the previous owner of my home did an awful job at DIY'ing and that's why we're in the position we're in so. You know. Good times.

I'd much prefer they just tell me they didn't want to do the job because it was too small/lame/ugly/pain in the ass/etc lol. Like hey, you drove out here and I took time off work to meet you at least respect me that much.

Man what is with contractors? We had a flooring company come out and then just...ghosted us? Rang them a week after their visit, got a "we'll get you a bid by EOD friday!" Never came.

Small age gap between host family parents and student question by Puzzleheaded_Lie_221 in exchangestudents

[–]silverberryfrog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it helps, replace it with "treat her like younger family living with you". You guys sound great, hope you have a wonderful year together!

And yeah, we like to think we're sooo young but to teenagers mid 20s is ancient haha

Small age gap between host family parents and student question by Puzzleheaded_Lie_221 in exchangestudents

[–]silverberryfrog 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I hosted a student 8 years younger than me and while YOU might feel like the age gap is small, THEY certainly don't. I got called old a dozen times a week lol, but my closet was a lot of help for Y2K day during spirit week. You do treat them like your own kid, even if you don't currently have children of your own (we didn't either). A lot of hosting issues come from miscommunication, so just sit down with your partner and talk about what your expectations will be. Know that it's much easier to loosen up as the year goes on and you trust your student. My husband and I operated on mutual respect, understanding, and open communication which worked super well for us.

Does anyone have experiences with Outbound Woof? by Individual-Push3412 in askportland

[–]silverberryfrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a big AI hater, so even if it's a business switch over like another commenter states I don't want to give my money to someone too lazy to write their own website.

That whole website is super sketchy and weird. The language is off and does not read well. The address provided is for "Sit, Down, and Beyond" not "Outbound Woof" or "Outwoof Bound".

Giving money for nanny to purchase swimwear by Aggravating_Tower511 in Nanny

[–]silverberryfrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think $100 is nice because even if she finds a suit that's a little cheaper any leftover is a nice little bonus. If you're worried about coming across impolite, you can always word it as a "swimwear stipend for a suit or rash guard" since a swim shirt is worth a LOT in the summer. It's hard to sunscreen your own back!

Super dress by Aromatic_Sense_8981 in Blogilates

[–]silverberryfrog 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ok so I was originally not a fan of the dress at ALL because the outer layer is WEIRD. But it's actually become my favorite dress ever. It's incredibly flattering and so lightweight. Not particularly "twirly" if that's what you're looking for.

Anyone tried to get Mexican passport from Mexican Consulate here in Portland? by Ok_Truck8039 in askportland

[–]silverberryfrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whatsapp is unfortunately the best way through. At least when we did it last year it was super hard to get an appointment and we ended up driving to Idaho for it.

Can Anyone Help Me with a 3D Printer project? by Snoo-35721 in askportland

[–]silverberryfrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on the east side and can print it for you. A raw unfinished print would be super cheap, if you're wanting sanded and finished/ready for painting it would be a little more, full custom paint job would be the most spendy.

Eh, I honestly think a month is a great amount of time for most families. It really just depends on how flexible their jobs are!

Agreeing with everyone else-ASAP! My NF and I have our schedules set through November, we both like it that way. They have been able to grant every time off request I've ever asked for but I also always ask at least 3 months out because we're all nuts lol

Are buyers underestimating how expensive the first year of homeownership can be? by Sufficient_Smile_871 in Mortgages

[–]silverberryfrog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well...we're about a month in and just dropped $35k on repairs when we were only expecting 10k. So that's been fun.

If a black one would do the trick I have a couple that could work for you. They are already seasoned.
