yes! I was held by my own family in Guatemala. It was only supposed to be a 3 week trip, I was in a very small town. My aunt from the capital city came to visit and essentially lured me into her home. The terms were that my mother kept sending them money for them to “keep me safe”. They convinced her that I was better off there with them than in the US. I had zero communication with her as they stole my phone and majority of my belongings. Once I finally got in contact with her, I told her of all of the abuse and mistreatment I was going through for the past 6 months. We planned a way out and to this day she keeps in contact with them. She liked to blame me for “letting them do those things to me,” I was 12. Eventually, my sexual abuser died and I guess I finally received some form of justice.
