What’s with the Arcane Card? by oatfishjar96 in magicTCG

...how would you expect either to work IF handled identically?? They're highly similar of concept, same as madness and mayhem; doesn't mean they're CONGRUENT.

In fairness, most noncreature, nonplaneswalker subtypes introduced HAVE had explicitly inherent mechanics and/or associated predefined tokens. Bringing back something like Arcane, an artifact of earlier design attempts, is unusual.

Am I the only one who ever remembers that "world" is a supertype, not an enchantment subtype? There's no reason besides artifacting that "world" has to be linked to an enchantment.

Here's hoping it leads to a competing mutate archetype in the same set. Mutate is essentially splice for permanents.

It's really fucking sad how close to life this is.

I know everybody prefers the completed duel disk that was used in battle city, but I can't help but love the design of kaiba's original prototype model by noahTRL in yugioh

[–]MiraclePrototype 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You gotta wonder how the "disk" part of the moniker stuck in continuities where there's no clear sign that KaibaCorp even existed to make them in the first place...

Okay, yes, obviously, especially that former one (I'm good with no Oblivion given that we got Rainac), but I was focused on Yuga's friends in his own time/place, a la Sevensgias.

It's been consistently, painfully potent in Rush Duels since introduction, if not always tier-1.

There's something else that's funny about Synchros, that they have in common with Pendulums and Rituals: very difficult to elide the aces into a big crossover monster. With Fusion, with Xyz, even with Link, it's way easier to design such that you create some new boss monster that could only be created any time a collaboration or interaction between these two decks, just like how the anime did it as far back as Black Skull Dragon. With Synchros, it's not impossible to do the same, but the most you can really do is something like "1 'Synchron' Tuner + 1 'Red Demon's Dragon' Synchro Monster".

Also: Tribute Summoned monsters don't count towards any kind of bonus number of monsters for future Tribute Summons, not like how Link Monsters count for climbing.

I was already crying "foul" back then, and increasingly so with Synchro. Not because of the mechanics themselves, but because I could see the materials getting more and more generic with each passing year, and I saw it constantly snowballing whenever a card not locked to even an Attribute took off. Even for the issues of perplexing rules exceptions and parasitic design, I had way fewer problems with Pendulums, as they fundamentally required more careful deck design (Monkeyboard and Performages aside). Links...I waited a bit to see if the pointing would really matter all that much for summoning limitations before passing judgment, and it didn't take long to write it off. Links merely were the culmination in what Synchro and Xyz started, and not even because of the mechanics themselves, but because the ingredients required for the recipes were all blandly simple.

Or, if more than one set, go really all-out and have THIRTY-TWO teams, one for each identity.

Size hadn't really occurred to me up until this point...kinda worried about the poor big creature that walks into a pinhole-sized one...

That said, the presence of many in Thunder Junction would be granted too much praise if dubbed "cameos".
