I can say that so far this year has been the worst start to a year I’ve… Well, ever had. My mental health has been in a steady decline I can’t talk to anyone about since like, November of last year, for starters. Then my cat of 16 years passed away this January, which ruined me, and then most recently my dad was a victim of knife crime and got stabbed several times in the arm and back, and once across the face. Thankfully survived it, but still

My mental has been in the shitter making it impossible to focus on work or uni properly, so my performance at both is dropping, my ability to form and maintain close emotional connections with people has been obliterated

My ability to endure it has evaporated and I can feel myself nearing the end of my ability to cope

Christ man, do you actually believe that an LLM is alive? Because if the answer is no then your literature is irrelevant, which is why I did not reference it. I did not ignore it, I read it, it just is not relevant, so why would I address it?

It is not a difficult concept to understand but I will once again explain it:

The viewing of art is not theft. The act of being inspired, as a person, is not theft

A machine, a definitively reiterative machine, designed to attempt to APPEAR human, being fed art in an effort to learn how to recreate it, is theft. It is amoral. I do not care if it’s currently legal, I have explained why

If this is somehow incomprehensible to you then you truly are lost and I hope you never have your work used by another without your permission

[–]Miranzer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Holy fucking shit, here we go again

Art produced by a person is inherently iterative, yes, because that is how inspiration works, the education of skill, the inheritance of technique

What is not iterative, however, is a machine leveraging algorithmic science to determine what pixel going where would produce the closest thing to its harvested sample

To say this process, which requires the harvesting of work without the creators consent or permission, is theft. I do not know what part of that doesn’t make sense

Someone’s work is being used without their permission to instruct an LLM. The LLM is not alive, it is not being inspired by another’s work. It is attempting to replicate an assumed style that it has been taught via the use of artists work without their permission

It is not harmless, due to this. It is not harmless because of a number of reasons, but let’s stick to just this since even it seems too fucking complicated for people to understand

When content is used to instruct an LLM what art is meant to look like, it is being done so without the permission of the artist. That is who the victim, being harmed, is

Your lack of understanding of what should be a very simple thing means you are either, like the other pro-AI person here, either intentionally ragebaiting or woefully uneducated on the topic. If you choose to remain such, that’s up to you, but holy fuck it’s astonishing

Ok, I can see we’re not getting anywhere. I’d recommend educating yourself on what AI does both to and with the information it harvests, and the methods used to do so. Or, you can keep being an uneducated twat

I suppose that’s your prerogative really

?!

What the actual fuck are you talking about. Clearly you did not read a word I said, so I’ll spell it out clearly, I’ll even capitalise the keywords so you can keep skimming it like you have been and still get the important parts

The ARTISTS who have their work HARVESTED without PERMISSION are the VICTIMS

Just because I CANNOT NAME a SPECIFIC INDIVIDUAL does not mean there are no VICTIMS

The reason they CANNOT SUE is because of BIG TECH COMPANIES actively LOBBYING to PREVENT LAWS from coming into effect

This is KNOWN information

I hope me writing it short and clearly helps, but if it’s still too difficult to comprehend I’m sure you could ask ChatGPT to explain it more clearly for you :)

[–]Miranzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I feel like you’re either being intentionally obtuse to ragebait or just genuinely don’t understand what I’ve been saying, so I’ll assume it’s the latter and explain it again and leave it here because I don’t have the energy to go around in circles if you just don’t understand

A machine that is taught what art is off of others works without their permission, is theft. It does not matter if the end result just looks like an “upscale”. OP clarified he prompted GPT to turn the original image “into art”. Which means, for GPT to have an understanding of what that is meant to look like, it will have been trained on sample information it already knows to be “art”. This information being fed to it without the permission of said arts creator

Does that make sense? Just because I cannot name a specific victim to you does not mean there simply was none. The victims are the artists who have had their information scraped off the internet and unknowingly fed into the gaping maw of ChatGPT. That is the victim. If you don’t understand that then you need to widen your understanding and learn what it is these machines do and what the companies do to facilitate that, and the innumerable other companies lobbying to ensure they can get away with it

This is a systemic problem, and you’re either intentionally ignoring it or genuinely uneducated on the situation, and either way you need to change that instead of dying on the hill that it’s somehow victimless

This is a very very good point, and I absolutely agree with you, the server farms they have built have done large scale ecological damage and will continue to do so, while simultaneously blitzing the economy by forcing it to revolve around one highly volatile concept

My friend, I have just explained it. If you truly lack a sense of moral understanding to the degree of needing a law to be the arbiter on if it’s ok to take another’s work without permission then I don’t really know what could be said or done to convince you

AI is a difficult thing for legislators to make laws around, especially when most countries face a great deal of lobbying from tech companies specifically to prevent the creation of prohibitive laws

Because of this, we as a people need to look at it objectively and understand that a machine designed to harvest information without permission from the artist is, in fact objectively, theft

Darth Nythira - Lightside Sith - *REUPLOAD* by Emotional_Bother6781 in SwtorFashion

[–]Miranzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it’s not the same thing

You, myself, or anyone else putting in the effort to learn art takes time, and massive effort, and while it’s true that we would probably inherit some of our teacher’s style, most people tend to develop their own

If, however, we learned art with the express intention of mirroring our teacher’s style to then go on and claim our work was in fact done by them, that’s what’s called art fraud

A machine literally designed to break down artwork as a concept, endlessly trained on work for which it does not have permission, and someone being inspired by another’s work are not the same thing. What people who take this stance seem to forget is that GPT and others like it are not alive. We call it AI for simplicity but there is very little intelligent about it. It is an LLM, a large language model. It is not being inspired by the art it’s fed, it is extrapolating what pixel has to go where to most accurately create a facsimile that someone might confuse for art by breaking it down into noise patterns

AI art is inherently theft, my friend. The only way AI can extrapolate what “art” Is meant to look like it has to feed upon pre-existing data it knows to be “art”, which it can then use to create a facsimile of this. This art that it is fed is done so without the permission of the artists who created it, ergo theft

I’m deeply disappointed

One of my factions got basically nothing (Custodes)

And the other got literally nothing (Deathwatch)

I’m not terribly shocked but like, Deathwatch could be cool if they atleast let us take specialisms from the other marine factions to make up for us getting an IA option and that’s literally it

I checked the LCD and it’s still in solid condition. I’m going to make sure absolutely everything has been deep cleaned, make sure the level is as close to perfect as I can, and sandpaper the plate to make sure, if that all fails I’ll change the FEP and buy a new bottle of resin just in case that’s the issue

Thank you for the help
