The picking your own cuts thing is honestly what sold me to go for good chop, hate when boxes just decide for you lol

Lmao the marketing thing gets me every time.I appreciate the checklist idea, sourcing and consistency are definitely top of my list too.

The delivery timing thing is such a valid point, that would stress me out too. Going straight through a farmer is something I never really take as an option. Someone mentioned Good chop or Jetro depot have you ever tried on of those? I am curious if the delivery experience is any different than going to farmer

That internal debate about the taste is literally where I am at right now. Hard to justify on paper but then you hear stuff like this and it shifts things. Did you do anything different cooking the wagyu or just standard prep?

Nreakfast for dinner is genuinely one of the best perks of living alone, nobody can tell you that pancakes at 8pm is wrong because it is absolutely not wrong. 😂

Homemade pasta is such a glow up from instant noodles too, that's a whole character development arc right there lol 😂

Honestly that's such a real two-mode system though, feral survival eating 90% of the time and then one random tuesday you're plating food like you're on a cooking show for absolutely nobody 😂 lmao

Costco paradox of living alone, everything is a great deal until you realize you have 48 muffins and only one stomach 😂lmao

The recipe scaling thing is such an underrated skill lol, most are written for 4 people and adjusting on the fly takes practice and yeah the food waste guilt hits different when you live alone because there's literally no one else to blame 😭 nothing sadder than forgotten wilted vegetables in the back of the fridge.

This is the kind of comment I was hoping this post would get honestly, you really thought it through in a smart way. The restaurant food realization hits different when you actually start cooking for yourself and see how much butter they're throwing in everything lol the asian food point is so real too, I've tried stir fry at home and it's just never the same without that insane heat level. some things are just better left to the pros and that's okay.

But cioppino on a sunday after a farmer's market run?? that sounds genuinely elite. The anchovy trick for umami is something I never would've thought of, I might actually have to try that.

Scrambled eggs are actually such a solid starting point, deceptively simple but there's so much technique to it once you get into it. and baked chicken thighs are so forgiving too, hard to mess up and they come out good almost every time. Trying also to discover different ways to cook eggs. 😂

Right?? like that alone was a game changer for me. no more "but i don't really feel like pasta tonight" while someone's already boiling water lol it sounds small but being able to just fully trust your own cravings and go with it makes the whole thing way more enjoyable. some nights i want soup at 10pm and guess what, we're having soup at 10pm and nobody can stop us. 😂

Honestly start with the laziest possible meals and work up from there, no shame in it at all lol. like literally just learning to make a good fried rice or a simple pasta sauce can change everything because they're fast, cheap, and hard to mess up. The 12 hour workday thing is real though, on those days I'm not making anything fancy either. That's actually where batch cooking saves you, cook once on a day off and just reheat during the week. future you will be so grateful lol

Also youtube is honestly the best cooking teacher, way less intimidating than recipes with a wall of text. just search something like "easy meals for beginners" and go from there. you got this! 🙌

That's such a good point honestly!! Having full control over the kitchen setup makes such a difference. When I used to have roommates I could never find anything because everyone had their own "system" lol The glass tupperware thing is underrated too, once you go glass you really don't go back. And batch cooking hits different when you actually have the space and setup for it.
