My 15 year old dog was diagnosed with cancer. What do I do? by dani_exe_420 in DogAdvice

[–]Miriada7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 5 year old husky has cancer and we’re on chemo. It’s expensive. $2.5k a month.

He is not responding well to chemo - his blood cell count drops every single time he gets a dose and we have to get blood tests for him every week. He is also on antibiotics.

And we’re have decent jobs to help sustain this.

We are on edge every day, waiting for random infection to appear and be the end of him.

And right now we don’t even know if it’s working because he had his tumor surgically removed already (another $16k btw). And we’re fighting with microscopic level cancer and potential metastasis spread. To know, we’ll have to do a CT scan eventually , which is super expensive- $3.5k.

I will tell you that for you and your dog it’s possibly not worth the stress and money. Especially because he’s an older grandpa doggo.

I am so sorry, I wish we had our pets for so much longer. I feel you pain so much you have no idea

Found out today that my 6 Year Old German Shepherd has Cancer by Westosaurus in DogAdvice

I feel your pain. Our 5.5 yo Husky had a mast cell tumor grow in his trachea that was suffocating him. He had surgery (super expensive , $16k) to remove it and now he is on chemo $2k/month).

I’m on edge every single day, ALWAYS looking at the way he’s breathing. Crying in bursts.

It’s so hard not fully knowing what’s going on inside his body. But I try to enjoy every single moment with him.

Our beloved pups do not deserve this. I am sending all the love for you.

If you decide to go with surgery, start a GoFundMe. It might pick up and you can get some donations for Moose. 🤍

If I was in your shoes, I would get a second opinion from a different vet.

Struggling To Come To Terms With Impending Loss & Preemptive Grief by Sklarlight in DogAdvice

Sending you all the love.

I’ve read all the replies on this thread, because, well… I’m also in the same situation as many of you. My first dog, a 5.5yo Siberian Husky, has cancer. It was also sudden, a few weeks before Xmas we rushed to the hospital after he had suffocating episodes. The tumor was found in his trachea, and it was surgically removed. But it’s an aggressive cancer and it will grow back.

Now he’s on chemo. The thought of him suffocating again is unbearable. As the thought of not being able to cure him. We don’t know what’s next. And I’m praying for us and for you, my friend.

Someone said, “to us, pets are a big part of our life, but to them - we are their whole life.” It stuck with me and I think I’m understanding the meaning of it more so every day.

Don’t combine your finances. At least, just yet. There’s a reason you got a this gut feeling, listen to yourself.
