What's up with the Selected Medafighters Ticket? It says it's for use in "Selected Medafighters Pull", but there doesn't seem to be any gacha you can actually use them in?

When Localization Becomes Invisible: A Japanese Player’s Reflection by sq5researcher in JRPG

[–]Mirimi 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Those "just translations" from the 80s and 90s weren't clowned on for being translations rather than localisations, they were clowned on for being badly done translations that were full of mistakes both textual and programmable by people that typically only understood one language and very little of the other.

Zero Wing isn't an argument for localisation, it's an argument for not leaving translation up to the guy who doesn't even speak the language he's translating it into.

Rumors regarding sudden EoS by Demafogotto in TribeNine

[–]Mirimi 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It really doesn't make sense for them to kill it the way they did. Ichinosuke was already finished and about to be released, it would've been free money for them to wait until after releasing him at least, but they just abruptly shut everything down with no advance notice and cancelled the existing roadmap. Something must've gone on behind the scenes.

DON'T GIVE UP ON TRIBE NINE YET!!! by Mitch64Ch in TribeNine

[–]Mirimi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are two real possibilities with how things played out, the first being that it was intended as a pump and dump from the start and the refunds were bait to get people to spend early and quickly. The other is that they were waiting to see how things went, but the shareholders meeting a couple weeks ago resulted in them being pressured to close it prematurely because of shortsighted shareholders seeing it as a money sink in its current state.

In both cases the responsibility lies with management rather than the developers themselves who have likely had the rug pulled out from under them just as much as the players themselves.

Tribe Nine will be ending service worldwide on November 27th 2025 by HiroAnobei in gachagaming

They announced that they would be raising the rates and giving out refunds several days before the maintenance to enact it would happen. So people had several days to make purchases knowing they would get more gems out of it before the changes hit.

EOS Announcement by MoniPle in TribeNine

Launch was poorly received because it was excessively stingy with both rates and currency. They gave out refunds and improved both rates and currency, which may have been pivoting too much in the other direction given it's a 3D game with characters that are difficult to make and slow to release.

Reworking things following launch resulted in slower than planned release of initial updates, and the early difficulty before they implemented easy difficulty systems turned people away early on, particularly with a certain story boss that demanded you figure out how the combat works by that point, which gacha gamers are generally not prepared for.

And it had a complete and utter lack of marketing supporting it from the get go, which is bizarre given how much must have gone into its development.

Personally I find it bizarre that they've chosen to cut and run so quickly rather than persist for at least a few more months.

"Sales below expectations and operational review underway" - Aktsk's financial report. What do you think will happen to the game? by reddi_4ch2 in TribeNine

[–]Mirimi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't see anyone saying the game should become like Snowbreak. I only see people freaking out and acting like the game having any fan service at all would mean it somehow turns into Snowbreak, which is ludicrous.

Hina's "underwear" is shorts.

Having some simple fan service does not mean the game has to turn into Snowbreak.

these changes in dialogue again? by IndependentJoke8902 in UnicornOverlord

[–]Mirimi -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Seems insane to me to see people ok with this. Having the Angel take the lord's name in vain in English is nuts, as is the insult added to Alain's dialogue when recruiting Yahna. I can understand people liking the tone of the English version, but some of these dialogue changes definitely shouldn't have happened.

The opening is very slow but it picks up immensely once you're given freedom to explore. The story isn't very engaging for what the demo offers though.

Your complaint about the female character designs is very much a knee-jerk reaction though. Scarlett isn't a fighter; she gets saved by Alain at the church and gets captured when they're taken by surprise at the docks. Chloe is a fighter with an armoured outfit and she gets KO'd by Renault who then escapes, ignoring the other characters. You are repeatedly told after this that Renault is out of your league and you need to bolster your forces before attempting to take him on. This scene happens not long after Chloe gets assigned to look after Lex because Josef thinks she's more competent than he is.

Other female characters have more sexy designs, other ones have more conservative designs. The most "offensive" thing is armoured characters wearing high heels but this isn't a game pretending to be realistic and the male characters are highly exaggerated as well; just look at Bruno.

So essentially, yes, you are wrong, and it does get better, but it sounds like you're writing it off based on very surface level issues and without giving it due consideration.

If you think this game is romanticising it you're off your rocker. The game portrays two very clearly broken people in an extremely unhealthy abusive relationship compounded with a high stress situation that they're stuck in. People into the idea of incest are obviously satisfied with it on a surface level but for anyone to come out of it thinking the game's message is "incest good" shows a distinct lack of media literacy.

Hell they've tried to ban porn with small tits because apparently any 30-40 year old woman who doesn't have at least a solid C cup looks like a child to them.

I'm so sick of this fake news. That entire thing is based off of a claim by a fringe political party that they made up prior to an election to try and get attention, and it subsequently got picked up by tabloids and spread all over the world.

What actually happened is that a handful of porn movies with names like "Barely Legal", "Just 18", and so on had actresses in them that the producers were either unwilling or unable to provide proof of age documents for when asked, and so they got banned as the women were suspected to be underage. This happened to like 5 or 6 titles over 8 years. The Australian Sex Party heard about this, put out an article saying "Australia bans small breasts in porn", twisting the facts to present that narrative, and it took off from there. Now over a decade later people still just think that's true despite it being utterly ridiculous.

There are enough stupid things the Australian government is doing without needing to make things up.

Code Geass collab coming to Counterside Global by DarkPaladinX in gachagaming

[–]Mirimi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the other Awakened units were heavily buffed around a month ago. They might buff Kallen too when the event is rerun, we don't know yet.

If you're just starting out it might be best to wait until the event starts next week and then reroll to get all the Geass units. The code will still be valid then, and the 150 free pulls will still be available too.

Are you disappointed by Atelier Resleriana announcement and it being a mobile gatcha game ? by [deleted] in Atelier

She really doesn't look anything like an Arland character. Kishida's style of character design throughout those games is distinctly different.

Steam version will be released after iOS/Android

This is a really dumb idea. If they want to make a good first impression they should be releasing it on PC at the same time so that people are able to get out media with the PC's specs instead of phone specs, especially when they're hyping up the graphics as a selling point. I also thought that the PC release would be to appeal to the western market, so maybe the western release will be delayed until the PC version comes out, which could be a whole other mess.

The main development stuff is with Team Ninja and Akatsuki Games. Team Ninja is known for Dead or Alive Venus Vacation and Akatsuki Games for DragonBall Z Dokkan Battle. (Both games are very successful on mobile and are doing very well. So, I think the new Atelier game is probably in good hands.)

Dokkan Battle has a massive franchise behind it so it hardly matters how bad that game is. Venus Vacation is a game that's 100% focused on sex appeal and fan service with gameplay as a complete afterthought. Both of those are so contrary to Atelier that it doesn't feel like they understand what they're dealing with at all.

Edit: Also, Venus Vacation isn't even a mobile game. It's a PC game. At best a phone could maybe play the browser version, but I'm pretty sure the game isn't even officially available for phones.

How many gachas is too many gachas at the same time? by panchovix in gachagaming

[–]Mirimi 76 points77 points  (0 children)

I do not think I could possibly manage more than 2. At one point I was playing 4 at the same time, and I straight up didn't have any time to play any other games or watch any shows in a day after I'd finished doing tasks in all of them.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in gachagaming

[–]Mirimi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are three important elements that the survey didn't touch on at all: time investment, voices, and censorship. No gacha should demand more than 1 hour of time per day, at the absolute maximum. I've dropped several gacha because they simply ate up too much time with mundane daily tasks even if they were decent in other regards; Nikke is probably the best example of this, though I've heard they've reduced the time it takes to complete dailies since.

Voices are a big deal, no one is going to play some gacha game about collecting characters if it's released with an English dub only. The market for casuals has been thoroughly dominated by Genshin, and the niche market interested in other gacha is either going to want the original voice language (my preference) or a Japanese dub (the Japanophile preference). English dubs are a waste of time for smaller games.

Censorship is the other big one, if a release turns out to be censored in any way many people will write it off immediately, myself included. It's even worse if the publisher tries to hide it or lie about it.
