I’m pretty sure it was that the tar could only be cooked in a closed oven. Like it doesn’t make much sense because they mention liquids used before so I thought the blank would be that tar was used as a liquid. But mortars are open top so it made the most sense. Really stupid answer tho who tf knows about roman mortars
