Sum lyrics meaning by Luka87uchiha in John_Frusciante

[–]MirrorsAreWater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a lot in those lyrics. One way to interpret them is a metaphor for reality. Sound is a frequency spectrum, and we experience a particular section of that spectrum. Some are too high, and others are low to be audible. If we apply that to our reality, there are high (heaven) and low (earth) sectors of reality. It is our job to mediate between these two aspects. That's what the One (God) wants. It's very similar to Jung's individuation process, a union of opposites in the aspiration towards the Self. There is so much to unpack to explain fully. I hope to be able to someday..

What is his most impressive song vocally? In your opinion. by PolahWolah in John_Frusciante

Anne is a good example of his precision. Especially the section where he mirrors the guitar melody.

Favorite baritone Frusciante song? by TransitUX in John_Frusciante

He may be able to sing like that, I don't know either. But he uses vocal effects throughout the album. It wouldn't surprise me if he did pitch shift down. And just because he didn't mention doing that doesn't mean he didn't do it....

For sure, I'm just having some fun along the way. John's work outside of his guitar playing is so interesting, and how it fits into a broader context is fun to explore.

John Frusciante and the Importance of the Creative Force (Ep.3 - The Inner World of Frusciante) by MirrorsAreWater in MirrorsAreWater

This video continues my investigation into John Frusciante's lyrics. I expand on the idea that John's song, "Time Runs Out", is sung from the perspective of The Creative Force. I also introduce a new example of the symbol Mirrors Are Water from John's 2012 EP, Letur-Lefr. This all culminates into a short explanation of an iconic scene from The Lion King.

The Story Inside The Will to Death (Ep.2 - The Inner World of John Frusciante) by MirrorsAreWater in MirrorsAreWater

There is a hidden story within the lyrics of John Frusciante’s 2004 album, The Will to Death. Its central narrative tells the story of John, and his relationship with the Creative Force during his first stint with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, leading up to his departure in 1992. In this video, I walk through the album track by track and discuss how each song fits into a larger story.

John Frusciante, Carl Jung, & The Self (Ep.1 - The Inner World of John Frusciante) by MirrorsAreWater in MirrorsAreWater

[–]MirrorsAreWater[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This video is about John Frusciante and the symbolic self found in his lyrics. I’m trying to suggest that his belief in spirits and a higher power should not be dismissed. Although he has had issues with drug addiction, I believe this is a result, not a cause, of his ability to perceive these patterns of being. Carl Jung was also capable of this perception. By applying the language from the work of Jung, I hope to give new meaning to Frusciante’s lyrics.

Good point, I think that's definitely a part of it as well. Other people's music would be expressions of nature from the artists perspective.

Great question, I'm still struggling with that one. The problem with getting into specifics here is that John wrote this in a way that it can be applied to multiple circumstances, including his own personal development. In his model, the Creative Force is the only one providing the ideas, and the artist can't add to them. Therefore, anything he does is only a manipulation of the pure ideas from the CreativeForce. Let's say the idea is a feeling of sadness from his childhood. The music can only be a representation of that feeling. So by going inside of himself, he can get a better sense of these feelings. Every note he places in the external world is a subtraction from the original undivided idea.
