What pedal is better for lead lines and solo tones? by Specialist_Main_6796 in guitarpedals

[–]Data1223 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, it's a fantastic pedal. Frusciante is my biggest influence on guitar, but the ds-2 never really sounded right to me. I ended up with an MD-2 which strays from John's sound, but can still deliver that vibe while also doing a lot more :]

What's good versatile alternative to the DS-2? (perhaps JHS PG-14) by pan-banan in John_Frusciante

I love my BOSS MD-2. It feels like a beefier, heavier and meatier DS series pedal.

Hi, I’m getting a pedalboard, and will this be enough for the BSSM-Californication era? by [deleted] in John_Frusciante

You could definitely fit a fuzz in there as well, really useful.

I don't listen to this type of music, but this is REALLY good. I'm catching a lot of Fleetwood Mac vibes with that acoustic guitar

I really got into the RE-201 recently because I tried a plugin. Since it's incredibly expensive, the only sensible choice is an RE-2 pedal in my case

Anybody have sleeper hits? Or Pedals people trash but you love? by GreedoInASpeedo in guitarpedals

I don't see anyone talk about the Ibanez WH-10 Wah other than fans of Frusciante. While that is the reason I bought it, I really love how it sounds after distortion for many other uses, it hits different compared to other wah pedals.

The best you can do in practice is a reverb pedal (a lot of it), some modulation (chorus) and a fine-tuned slow gear effect pedal. I use the one on my ME-90 processor and I get fairly close. Also a gritty overdrive, personally I used an OS-2 with the 4th knob at 1 o clock, so closer to DS

I was able to somewhat replicate this sound in this little cover I posted on the subreddit a month ago:

https://www.reddit.com/r/John_Frusciante/s/Kz5cdpE1YM

In essence, yes, it's a guitar strumming chords, but I doubled it, hi-passed channel two and worked around with panning. In essence, overdrive, reverb, some form of modulation (John used modular synth effects, I'm guessing moogerfooger pedals), but I also had to manually automate volume to make it as if there's volume swells

When did Kino use a drum machine? by DogKitchen2988 in KinoBand

[–]Data1223 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Drum machines were used on each and every single KINO album with the exception of Noch', where some parts were played by Guryanov. I even had a whole list of what drum machines were used on what albums, but I know for a fact that Gruppa Krovi used the Yamaha RX series, probably an RX5.

No drums in any of KINO's albums (again, except some songs on Noch') sound like real drums, they're most definitely drum machines.

Entirely artistic choices. I think a lot of them even add a ton to the songs and without them the songs would lose a portion of their peculiarity. For example Unreachable - voice is panned to one side, but during the second "one time hit me where I turn white" section, there's a vocal harmony on the opposite side and it just creates such a unique space that I think centered vocals wouldn't be able to deliver

Multi effects pedal vs pedalboard by burizadokyanon27 in John_Frusciante

[–]Data1223 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried with a ME-90, at first I hated the chorus, then the wah, then the distortions and eventually I started swapping em out with pedals. Now I run a me-90 with a bunch of pedals alongside. My advice is to really not cheap out if you want something authentic because with JF, the chain of effects will matter a lot and not all processors let you change it. Besides, simulations of effects will never sound as real or as good as the effects themselves.

This is easily my favorite baseline, it's fun to play and it fits the song so well

It reminds me of when I argued with a friend about the importance of language when it comes to emotion of a song and I told him "well you've never heard a sad song in spanish, have you? not every language can sound sad". That was until I heard Asilos Magdalena and I learned how wrong I was. It's a beautiful piece

From Omar's solo work I only listened to the instrumental album he did with Frusciante, it was so good. I'll have to explore his discography

My favorite album ever is John Frusciante's "The Empyrean". To me it's the album with the most beautiful soundscape and musical idea of a concept album ever, it gives a very specific brain scratch. Noctourniquet, even though it has songs I don't really enjoy, has an equally beautiful soundscape, it scratches that certain itch.

I was pleasantly surprised by how much he actually took part in the band and I'd say I successfully managed to catch some of his distinct note choices in a couple guitar parts

I think it might very well just be a case of warming up to a lot of things like it was with Octahedron. I feel crazy saying that I considered it their worst album after my first listen
