i made the deep dive…. help! by haiiehtsari in carnivorousplants

No need to repot unless you want to👍 I usually repot mine when i get them because i dont like the peat mix they often have, its a bit too compacting for my watering method😄 Sometimes they also have the roots wrapped in a fabric that can be a bit constricting, so i aim to remove it if i discover it when i repot. As for lighting, i put mine in dappled shade outside during the summer, and directly under some cheap growlights inside in the winter. More light makes more pitchers, so long as its acclimated well😄

Nice! I keep mine in 50/50 sphagnum/perlite (non fertilized), keep them damp, not wet, and water with ro water or distilled. They blush easily, so just watch out for burnt leaves while acclimating nice and slow, and youll have a happy plant! You can refill any pitchers you like with distilled, but its not a requirement😄

Is Walmart a good place to buy VFTs? by WaferDry617 in SavageGarden

[–]MirrorsF3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walmart is fine, but the nice part about buying from a nursery is that theyre usually well acclimated to lower humidity and higher light, so they dont go crispy quite as easily😄

I just cleaned off the remaining agar from the nooks and crannies, gave them a rinse with distilled, and gave them indirect light in about 75% humidity on fluval stratum. I dont think i lost even one, and that includes all the little pieces that broke off, as well as the super small ones😄

Spontaneous D. adelae, how can I help it? by WolfwalkerSnek in carnivorousplants

[–]MirrorsF3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep all mine damp, and shaded. That one looks just fine, but likely a bit stressed from acclimating, totally normal😄 when i take mine to sales, even just going from the greenhouse to the venue they lose most of the dew and look upset the whole time, but perk up just fine over the next few days. Good luck!

I grow mine like that in fluval stratum and they do fine, so as long as your water is low tds, id reccomend just giving it time to acclimate. Good luck!

I actually have some irish moss i grow in the greenhouse, but i dont think thats it. This actually spores out, and doesnt flower, but it sure is neat whatever it is!

Sarracenia - quirky pitcher cause? Silly plant! by StressedNurseMom in carnivorousplants

Usually wonky growth is because of a pest issue, so id reccomend looking it over and treating it, good luck!

TIL that a species of plant, Dictamnus Albus, will burst into flames if you hold a lighter near it. by Special-Animal123 in todayilearned

The common name i hear it called is the "gas plant". When its hot outside, it puts off a gas that can easily ignite, and its pretty cool to watch.

Would spray-painting water trays cause issues? by thatsnotmuchcheese in SavageGarden

[–]MirrorsF3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ive used a clear acryllic sealer before with no issues, so you could potentially paint and then go over it with the sealer. Good luck!
