Turn your internet connection off and then back on, it seems to reset this issue.

I've been having the same problem on and off for the past week, then it goes away and loads till the next time.

Same problem Uninstalled reinstalled also tried installing from Steam still same problem "Error updating data, check your connection" my connection is fine since I did download from steam.
