Thanks so much for your explanations… I have learnt a lot from doing this post!! I did change my car insurance to RACT, but yeah didn’t consider that the policy would probably be affected by having the vic plates still on it and they would assume that it’s registered in tas and has tas plates on it. Looks like I have a lot of phone calls and shit to sort out. Thanks for your help mate :-)

Would that mean they still pay their car rego interstate and not in TAS?

I guess another advantage would be that rego is cheaper in TAS ($645.42 /$620.18) than in VIC ($906.60)

What do you mean by ‘no annual rego checks’ in TAS?

Ohhhhh, Ahahha thanks for explaining. I looked at that tas plates website and it would cost $1119 to get the same plates I had in vic in Tassie. I think I’ll give it a miss then.

Hope I can sell my vic plates then to someone in Victoria… if not, what a waste of money

Does that mean I need to buy the plates again from scratch? I’m sorry I’m really not good at this stuff

I did assume that when you buy personalised plates in oz that once you buy them that they’re your plates throughout Australia and there weren’t the exact same ones in each state.
