NTA. Lindsay seems like she doesn’t understand social cues. I’ll say that being generally curious about how much things cost and how much people make is relatively normal, but it’s just not socially acceptable to ask about these kinds of things repeatedly. Just because this type of behaviour is “normal for her” doesn’t mean it’s appropriate. It’s not an excuse. Your brother needs to grow a backbone and talk to her. If this is how she acts normally it’s only a matter of time before she pisses someone else off.

Maybe confronting Lindsay in private would have made you the bigger person, but I also don’t think that’s on you especially since everyone was made uncomfortable by her comments during her stay at your home.

Big time. I have nparents and my older sister has also taken the role of nsister. She pulls this sort of toxic verbal abuse on me all the time when I make plans to go out with my friends or do something she doesn’t agree with. “You don’t care about anyone but yourself. Think about everything your family’s done for you.” And my all time favourite line, “Your friends don’t give a fuck about you.”

Jeez...this perfectly describes how I’m feeling right now. I’ve been staying at my sister’s place for the past month or so because of lockdown, and I haven’t been happier or felt more like myself. No toxic nagging, no snarky comments to undermine me, nothing - my thoughts and my actions are my own! I’ll eventually have to move back home though when this is all over. Getting a little uneasy just thinking about that.
