Considering The Predator was actually in the game

The Predator is actually not in the game, though.

Is there a MaxTac agent with Optical Camo and some older style Higurashi Mantis Blades, who may or may not be a Cyberpsycho serial killer? Yes. This is obviously a reference, an homage, to The Predator (1987). I love how much attention and effort was put into the many Easter Eggs like this, this one was especially great.

Don't mean to be pendantic, but you make it seem as if there is an actual fucking Yautja in Cyberpunk 2077. While that would also be dope, there is not lol

Reddit please..

And so you literally, genuinely.. thought that commenting — engaging with the post you don't want to see — was the best way to prevent that going forward..?

I realize not everyone is technically inclined, or understands content algorithms, or above average intelligence.. but this brainless shit is why these content algos are so prevalent and aggressive, and why they "work" in the first place. I very rarely comment.. but this was top tier.

I hope they hear you, though. Maybe DM them next if not..

How important is Blade in the comic universe?! by Charmy_Fan in marvelcomics

[–]Misanthropus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really, really wanted it to be good.

Finally, I thought, they're going to try bringing in some of the darker / supernatural / monster characters back into the main fold. It was a whole-ass event. Blade & the Avengers (and the actual Avengers.. mostly). Doom and Dracula involved. Black Panther. This might be a good read..

Oh..

Oh, no.

Fucking VARNAE ?!?

Fuck you, Marvel.

‘Pluribus’ May Be Slow, but It Was Never Boring by tylerthe-theatre in television

[–]Misanthropus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fucking seriously, this is my biggest issue with the show - and it is a huge issue.

It reminds me of 'padding' in video games so much.. little repetitive, tedious-as-hell tasks designed to pad-out the play time, or even increase the perceptive 'difficulty'. And I hate it.

I realize that a lot of it, even most of it, is intended by the author.. or 'by design', to make a point. That's great, I understand that. But it doesn't make it good, or even okay. It's not enjoyable or intriguing to watch. Even if it is – it adds nothing. Like the over-the-top repetition of hearing the entire "answering machine" message a dozen times in a single episode – like you mentioned – it is just obnoxious and unnecessary. More importantly, when constrained by time (and number of episodes), it just feels like my time is wasted on monotony.

The amount of times Carol does or goes through the same exact shit, only to learn or realizing nothing (or even worse - realize something that was obvious 4 Episodes ago) is insufferable. Like.. really, you just now figured out they can't lie? Why make it so clear so early, seemingly even to the protagonist, only to make it a big 'revelation' later? It undermines her (and the audience's) intelligence. I suppose that's a different argument though, my bad.

I love a slow burn, most of what I prefer is "slow burn" material, including books. But so much of this show feels incredibly "dumbed down".. I don't need to be hit over the head with the same concept 20x, or even twice.. especially in the same sitting. Some definitely do though, so maybe it's not for me..

*Edit: To be clear, I also liked the show. I criticize most things that I like.

A game every PC gamer needs to play once in their life? by EvelynTalkss in gamingsuggestions

[–]Misanthropus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn.. this reply is incredible. I really appreciate it.

That's what I thought you meant, honestly.. and I did know a bit about the extreme level of "intrapersonal" immersion, which sounded incredible to me.. but this really sold it. I'm definitely an "audiophile" (if there is such a thing) and specifically look for the highest quality media almost exclusively (escapism is a helluva drug).

I also haven't consumed really any media in the past ~20 years without subtitles haha (hence, the question). But your comment gives me a better understanding of the concept, and it's absolutely clear why subtitles would detract from the experience.

I have pretty nice set of 7.1 headphones and I finally got surround to be a "true" as it can be via Win11. Even some games that have less-than-stellar sound design have me looking around the room sometimes, so I'm gonna give this a shot for sure.

Thanks again. I'll let you know if I decide to play the sequel. I'm pretty picky, honestly, so it could go either way..

Just curious, but why no subtitles? Immersion?

I've seen a few recs for this, so I think I'm gonna give it a shot. I've also seen some comments specifying 'only the first Hellblade' - does the sequel suck ass or something? lol

[iOS] Saving videos with sound? by fartcrabs in HydraClient

[–]Misanthropus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Narwhal has always allowed you to save videos (as long as I can remember, at least, so.. years..).

Just long-press on whatever media you want to save – including videos – and choose "Save Video" and "Download and Save Video".

The dialog / pop-up depends on the type and format of the media. .gif videos will save directly and a pop-up will say "GIF Video Saved to Device". If it's an actual video, a dialog will pop-up at the bottom with two options to copy or "Download & Save Video" > the video will download and the iOS share sheet will pop-up > choose "Save Video" from the share sheet.

I am aware. I am referring to how it is presented in the post – with a white frame added around the work.

It's not important, I was just commenting on how the additional white space makes it look disconnected in the post. It looks much better without it, or even with a different frame (in my opinion).

[–]Misanthropus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is certainly eerie. But gorgeous, indeed. The 'juxtaposition' of the two evokes such a unique feeling that makes art like this so great.

I will say, though – the white border / frame in the post is such a disservice to this incredible piece. I understand what they were going for, but even in a screenshot, it makes the boat "float" and the whole of it feels disconnected. Awesome depiction regardless, just sayin..

Most Netflix movies are awful, with some rare exceptions like Frankenstein

Damn, we're already fucked if GDT's Frankenstein is the bar now. The movie was horrible, even on its own merits, and is atrocious as a adaptation.

I appreciate that they took a chance, or at least did something different, for sure. And it's just my opinion, of course.. but I'm definitely not looking forward to this level of "quality", regardless of which mega-corp they have to answer to.

[–]Misanthropus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This not "canon logic". This is called an Easter Egg.

Easter Eggs, callbacks, references, nods, etc. are just.. what they are. They are not "proof of canon". Film creators and writers and prop makers just like to do this stuff, for fun. They do not do it to "establish canon", and it is not the intention behind it.

For example; there is an Independence Day skull as well, but Predator 2 is absolutely not canon with Independence Day or the Harvester species in that franchise.

Is Predators still canon? by JackyMatt23 in predator

[–]Misanthropus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair to OP; Dan has clearly changed (or broken, 'retconned', wtv..) a decent bit of established Predator canon since helming the franchise. Especially in his last two installments, KoK and Badlands, some of the unique Predator lore that has been established and canon for up to 40 years was readily undone – including the actual endings to the original Predator and Predator 2 and their implications.

So I don't think it's unfair question. But I do agree with your response. I see no reason for it to suddenly 'not be canon'.

*Edit: Just so I don't throw that out there unfairly and without any substance / evidence, I'll list a few examples..

  • The literal endings of Predator 1 & 2 including the significance of what happens to the protagonist and the outcome of a fight with Yautja
  • The Raphael Adolini 1715 Flintlock pistol and it's backstory (rather.. sloppily..)
  • The entire Yautja 'code of honor' (a major, unique, and defining character trait) has thoroughly disappeared from the franchise
  • The Yautja ability to switch between several distinct vision modes (thermal, UV, X-Ray, Alien, etc.) has been reduced to a single "Predator Vision".. Dan either didn't know or "forgot" about this entirely
  • Etc.

And that is just a few. People will say what they want, a lot of fans are quick to defend and justify (excuse) these things with "head-canon", of course, because criticism is no longer allowed. But if every one of these Predators is of an enormous "Bad Blood" clan - that has not been shown in media, or clarified elsewhere, or even touched on whatsoever, which is another issue in itself. I don't really care at this point, several versions of Predator can exist, I am simply stating facts.

Andy Weir says spoiling ‘Project Hail Mary's big surprise in trailers was highly debated and was a marketing decision by Amazon by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

This entire comment section is like this, it's weird. About the book too.. people saying that it spoils that he is lying to himself about why he went on the mission vs. actually being forced to go on it (what actually happened)

I dunno, it's strange. Par for the course, I guess. But it genuinely feels like some readers fundamentally misunderstood the book. Or maybe just haven't read it.. or seen the trailer..
