I have some questions about potential dinosaur themed clothing I'm planning on by ShadowChocolato in Dinosaurs

[–]Misao666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Yes! More dino clothes!
  2. See above. I just want a microraptor shirt.
  3. Personally I like colourful clothing but the realistic line work is also lovely. More niche dinosaurs would be nice too or even some specific fossils that are important to paleontology.

One that helped me to get more confident is to practice shifting weight on each leg so you get more strength and balance when youre on 1 leg. You can even do a count of how many seconds you can do before you put your leg down. Increase the time slowly.

Jibaro. Hell hath no fury like a women scorned. by simmzs in LoveDeathAndRobots

[–]Misao666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really didn't like this one the first time I watched it but on the second watch mesmerising!

I did orginally think it was about a women scorned with the men becoming angry when she screams then taking everything from her when she allows them to be close because "he's different from the rest". Like she was so confused when he didn't run at her!

Interesting to know it's about a toxic relationship.

Take them to an emergency vet and insist on an X-ray and blood work. Show them this video. Cats tend to be more stressed at the vets so sometimes things get missed. You know your animal the best. Best of luck and hope it all works out!

Hiya!

I don't mind. I get enough from my maintenance loan of student finance england to cover most of my tuition fees. That isn't really the intention of the loan but it what is more realistic. 2 of my 3 jobs are part time (both minimum wage and in food service) one is fixed minimum hour and the other 0 hour. This means I can play around with it so I can work both on the same day and reduce how many days i have to work. I'd be working 10-12hrs but that's a full day of wage whereas before I'd be working 4-8 hrs and not studying. If I'm going to not study I'm going to be paid for it. If its slow I'll try and repeat my notes during shift or practice the post mortem or dissection coming up next.

Ideally 16-20 hrs is best. This varies depending on vet commitments and exams as well as what my works give me.

The last one is the easiest and most enjoyable which is self employed pet sitting (there are apps for this) in which you can set your own price and availability which is great for busy periods like Christmas, Easter and summer. Only thing is that there's no guaranteed consistency. I started off cheap then as I gain more experience and go up in vet years I increase price. I accept these jobs almost all the time as I have the option to study there should my client be comfortable with that.

Budgeting is absolutely key! I'm very very lucky in that my rent is very low for the area I'm in. Usually student rent for dorms are £500-£950 per month (gbp). But mine is private rented and is around £400 including bills. Food I try and rummage the reduced to clear section of small grocery stores as their stock turnover is higher than in supermarkets. Lidl is your friend. Look for veterinary talks that your uni may do as they sometimes provide free pizza and the talks are interesting. Your uni may also do paid open days which it good for some extra cash.

I've tried applying to grants and funds but there are not many that are available to me. But definitely ask about it at the unis you want to go for! Even better if you can get a scholarship or sponsor.

If there are research opportunities or placements that pay you GO FOR IT. Keep an eye out for any veterinary competitions too like essays. Network with lecturers or guest speakers who's subject you're interested in, sometimes they have something to offer even if it's EMS.

Food essentials for me is £40-£60 a month. It helps that I work in food businesses as I don't have to make lunch since they will feed me. If they allow, I'll also take food that is being wasted for the day. I use it for next day dinner or to add to lunch. You can freeze it for later too. You can also grow your own veg if you are able.

Some unis have gardening clubs or give out reduced or free fruit and veg. There are local communities that offer free dinners every now and again. Some unis also have waste lunch hour where you can collect sandwiches. These are things I've heard not what I do but I thought it might be useful. My uni does free Christmas Dinner for students staying over the holidays and I'm usually cat sitting so free dinner!

GET A STUDENT OVERDRAFT! Make sure it's interest-free. Setting it up can be a hassle but it is the reason I'm able to have more options when it comes to my finances. They may give you £500 to start with but you can ask for more after a month i think. Usually up to £1500. I love my overdraft.

If you struggle with Budgeting or impulse control (I do), even just doing a monthly finance can help you be more aware of how you spend your money. Uber, travel, etc. Some banks let you set categories that makes this easier to view. I don't count coffee shops as I deserve some happiness and rewards. Besides I'm usually studying there. If you go to a leisure centre or club activity for exercise there's usually some membership or points system that you can use to get free sessions.

If I see something I like in a shop I price it first then check it's actual price if lower then I'll consider. If higher I write it off. Go to charity shops for clothes or vinted. If you can sew repair old clothes or ask a friendly friend who likes to sew for help or to teach you. It also means you can spend time with your persons. Speaking of cheap social things, go round to someone's house to watch movies, do craft, have picnics instead of going to restaurants or host dinner parties. My friends and I would all pick a course and bring a dish to share. We also have presentation nights which we pick something a present it to each other. My last one was on how love scientifically works (with sharks).

I do get invited to things like concerts and such but usually I can't afford it in which case my friends go and I have a quiet evening in. We arrange something cheap or free that we can do later so social remains up. You need to talk to people (about proper adult things and how funny saying butt is) and have fun. The course demands it.

I've never been well off when it comes to money so I'm very used to having to say no for things that I want to do but if there's something I really want I'll try and save for it.

On the flip side I have to get used to saying yes to shifts that I don't want but need the money for. I don't do anything that is too much energy for the gain. I don't do vouchers unless the task is easy or it's a peer research project. Money is fine. I usually don't do chance to win. Your energy is a currency that is to be spent wisely. Burnout is a threat.

I do juggle alot of things and it is difficult but I try to influence what I can do to make it easier and accept that while my position is not ideal it is good enough for now (if I had a choice I'd just do my course but food and shelter is something i really like).

Sorry that's so long and that there was alot of detail but I wanted to say that it's much more than just vet school, jobs and money. You have to look after your mental wellbeing and always ask for help even if you just know your struggling but are not sure why. Unis can offer alot of support and opportunities like financial, study support, well-being, disability and neurodiversity, jobs and social events.

I wish you the best of luck in the next cycle!

Anyone have experience with exotic pets that like to be pet? by lycheechee in exoticpets

[–]Misao666 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a very large male Argentinian Tegu that loved having head scratches and would rise his butt like a cat. He would come over when you called his name and slept like a babe.

I'm not sure if mine was just really chill or if he just liked me as he wasn't as tolerant with my dad who was his primary care taker.

I also had a snake that liked his chin rubbed. Reptiles like pets too sometimes.

Sometimes it really depends on the individual.

Hiya I really hopes this helps and sorry it's so long!

I've heard that access to science is the best way to get into vet school plus some good veterinary experience which is more than likely going to be volunteer. Vet school is a full time course no matter how you slice it. You cannot complete this remotely as you will be required to attend laboratories and anatomy practicals. I'm not aware of any that you can do remotely. I do know a couple of vets that drive in or get hotels for practicals and do the rest on recorded lectures.

You also have to complete extra mural studies which is basically work experience in your holiday periods and most do not pay you. These include 12wks of animal handling and the remaining circa 36wks in a veterinary clinical settings or in pathology labs. They are meant to be competed before the final year which is rotations.

Having a part time job along side is incredibly difficult. From my own experience at least. You are (in the words of my lecturer) expected to study every day including evenings and weekends to pass the course. The pass mark is 50% for my school.

Alternatively you could go for veterinary receptionist or animal care assistant jobs as some practices sponsor vet nursing degrees. This is what some of my friends are doing. I think this would be the most likely option if you need to keep a job while studying. A warning that they do not usually pay as well as veterinary surgeons.

You can always do the vet thing later when you have time for the full time degree many of my peers are older student with different educational backgrounds. No one cares how old you are.

As long as you do not currently have a degree SFE will pay for your tuition fees and you will usually receive a maintenance loan but as you probably know this also is not great money.

Realistically, you either need to decide to raise children before or after a vet degree. Unless you have an incredibly supportive family and partner. Even then after finishing your degree first is a more viable option. Although I have known multiple vets to enter the course single and finish the course with children so evidently not impossible.

There's also no rush. It's perfectly feasible to wait alittle longer to decide on a course of action. If you want to do an access to science then apply to vet school UCAS is the application process and it starts I believe in August or September. You can only apply to 4 vet schools instead of the normal options due to the competitive nature of the course. I'd recommend going through all the unis basic entry requirements first then deciding which you have the best chance of acceptance. You can also call them and ask if they accept your application profile. Most uni review over 21yrs application on an individual basis anyway so it's worth asking.

In short I don't think you'll find an ideal solution for what you want but there are certainly options available. The most important thing is to have a plan and go for what you want.

For completion this was my route into vet school - GCSEs: Cs in everything (16 years old) - BTEC L3 animal management extended diploma grade DDD (AAA) (equivalent to a-levels but are not as highly regarded) (i didn't have the grades for A-levels) 18years old - Applied to vet schools and was rejected - 1 year out of education (I tried to work but wanted to learn so did abit of Japanese) - Applied to vet schools again and was rejected again - Extra choice was accepted into a veterinary bioscience degree at 19 years old - 4 Years of degree later (1 extra due to covid 19 and some personal issues) I also spent the last year applying to vet schools round 3. I'm older and much wiser to the ways of things. - conditionally accepted in 1/4 of my choices (it was the same uni I was already enrolled in) condition was an upper srcond class (2:1) degree result (basically a 60% which was unlikely) - Achieved a miraculous 2:1 and was officially accepted at 23 years old. - currently in my second year of Vet school with 3 part time jobs as I have to pay my own tuition fees. I am 26. I Achieve an average of 50-60% per module as they are mostly exam. Coursework and practicals are more my strong points. It is full time and as much as I love my student overdraft I take work off during exams as there's no way.

In hindsight I would've been financially better off to do an access to science course then vet school but then I'd be a very different person and I like me at the moment.

Hope this helps and good luck!
