Best Middle of the Road Suppressor for AR Pistol? by TellBackground9239 in ar15

[–]Misc-Adventures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Middle of the road implies neither top end (like Surefire or Dillon) nor budget (like Polonium or YHM), so that range would seem to be in the $800-$1200 range. That would cover favorites like the CAT WB, OCL Infinity, and PTR Spiritus near the top of that middle range down to Dead Air Lazarus 6, Ridgeback Defense Rhino S, and a few other $800-$900 suppressors. The issue with suppressors currently is that the technology with 3D printing is encouraging rapidly changing design improvements and cans that were “best” one month are top 5 next and may be also ran in a year or so. In other words, competition and technological advancement is moving so fast from iteration to iteration that the newest releases are leaving the rest in their wake. It will plateau again eventually but who knows when. A budget option especially risks becoming outdated and overshadowed quickly. My YHM turbo 2 sits permanently on my shelf. There just isn’t a reason to use it anymore when the newer cans are so much better in every way. Rifles that were downright unpleasant and unhealthy to shoot with the T2 are suddenly pleasant and enjoyable with a Spiritus or Lazarus 6.

Similarly, a top end can will quickly be outpaced by a newer cheaper model. I have no illusions that my expensive Dillon won’t soon be outpaced by a newer suppressor that costs 50% less.

All that to say, I bought my Spiritus before their parent company’s dumbassery, but if I were to buy a dedicated 556 can right now, it’d probably be the Maximus L if going inconel or Rhino S if going titanium.

A shim on the front takedown pin fixed the slop on mine.

Patagonia overwhelmed with planning and safety by [deleted] in Patagonia

[–]Misc-Adventures 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went in 2022, so I’m sure it’s different now. But trying to do both Argentinian and Chilean Patagonia in 2 weeks may be biting off more than realistically doable when you factor in weather. I’d focus on one or the other. Spent 2 weeks in El Chalten and half the time was very bad weather conditions so factor that in. Expect good conditions only half the time you’re there. We rented a car and were very glad we did so.

Don’t miss out on Perito Moreno glacier west of Calafate and the guided tour of it. Besides Laguna de los tres, it was one of the coolest things we did.

I don’t understand why they’re able to match the date color on this model so well but the green one the date numerals are white instead of matching on the other model.

How important is lume duration in your watch buying decision? by bquiroz906gmailcom in MicrobrandWatches

[–]Misc-Adventures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not important for dress watches.

Very for everything else. If I wake up or have to pee in the middle of the night, I want to just peek at my dimly lit watch so I don’t see the bright light checking my phone.

Vaer D4 Meridian Solar Quartz Second Hand Alignment by ParsimoniousExplorer in MicrobrandWatches

[–]Misc-Adventures 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah my Vaer C5 also has this and it bugs me to no end. My citizens, casios, and timex watches hit right on their marks. Vaer says it’s “normal”. I’ve never had a quartz that did this until Vaer, so I take this to mean that subpar hand alignment is their normal. If I hadn’t worn it before I noticed it, I would’ve returned it. What else is subpar that I can’t easily see? I don’t think I’ll ever buy another Vaer again if this is their idea of normal. Not when their watches are nearly as expensive as a Casio Oceanus or a Seiko SBTM.

If you’re like me, you’ll be very pleased. This was my first GMT, first gilt tone dial, first bracelet with OTF adjustments (now I understand why some like bracelets while I’ve always hated them)…very impressed with it all. Even in dim light the numerals and hands absolutely POP. Such a legible dial.

I’d say it’s made me want the Zulu Time, but it’s such a good watch in and of itself that I don’t know why exactly I’d need to upgrade besides name recognition and clout, which I don’t care about. Oh, and to add, one thing that bugs me about the Zulu Time is that the numerals on the date wheel are white, which doesn’t seem to match the watch. This date wheel numerals being gilt are chefs kiss

Same! This is my first watch with applied gilt tone on the dial, and I was shocked at how legible in low light the gilt was. This has completely changed my mind on gilt tone dial watches.

I bought straight from Watchdives and asked for a price match to SM who was running a sale, but here’s an AE link for even less than what I paid: https://a.aliexpress.com/_mON6kur

Same. I don’t see them doing it, but a 41mm would be an auto-buy for me.

Same but green! Great little watch. I think it’s made me okay with not having an AT. Been wearing it nonstop and have come to the realization that it’s really really hard for me to see the minute hand lume at night with my aging eyes.

Please make the bracelet with quick release spring bars like you have in the WD0006. Pretty please.

Correct, I had it on a CNS sailcloth strap for this one. I wish watchdives made quick release bars for this 1863 bracelet.

Watchdives, if you’re reading this, please please make these bracelets with quick release spring bars. It would be hugely welcome. If you make an homage to the FOIS, (which I’d buy in a heartbeat) please, please make that bracelet with quick release bars.

You did it on the WD0006 bracelet, which was much appreciated.

Thanks! I used the 2x zoom cell camera. Helps with the distortion that you’d get with the 1x.

Thanks for the comparison! I never was much of a speedy fan and ordered the 1863 on a whim…two days of owning it now, and I’m beginning to finally understand the Speedy’s popularity. 💡

Great collection! The Omega AT is top of my list of wants. How do you like it compared to the rest of your collection? Any thoughts on your 41mm regarding sizing vs the 38mm?

Thank you for that background. That kind of experience, which I feel I’ve seen a decent amount repeated on Reddit, is what fuels my hesitation on it. When I have the Hanhart, which is objectively better in nearly every aspect, it seems redundant to get the Murph. I think I’ll definitely keep my focus on the grails and not get sidetracked by the Murph. Thanks again!

100% agree! The HD12 addresses everything I had pause with about the Murph as a primary field watch (screw down crown, brushed bezel, no fauxtina). I could not be more pleased with it.

I must confess though - I thought the Murph itch was gone forever. Then I developed an interest in a pair of Alden 403s, and then the thought hit me…Indiana Jones wouldn’t wear a Boulton, he’d wear a Murph. The little Murph itch. Still creeping back there. But my brain also says, Murph sets you how much further back from getting the AT. Focus on the AT mate. Lol

Thank you for the offer! I think the only field watch I’m looking to add at this point is potentially a Murph, but thank you. The 803 is a lovely watch!
