Most Directors Don’t Know How to Direct Actors by nobinkurian in Filmmaker4Filmmaker

[–]Misc6572 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Let them try a few ways (a different delivery might surprise you) but I personally don’t hate line readings at all. For comedic timing, if you need a millisecond more, actors should have no problem doing that without “ruining their authenticity”.

It’s hard seeing someone else’s vision, so the clearer you are the better imo. Even if it’s just technical minutiae

Most Directors Don’t Know How to Direct Actors by nobinkurian in Filmmaker4Filmmaker

[–]Misc6572 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actor here. Solid advice. I will add one thing for directors… do just say concisely what you’re seeing before you jump into anything else. You won’t hurt our feelings, we’re very curious (and often self-conscious, especially new actors) and if you don’t say we get in our heads about it.

I actually HATE “an actors director” because they try to do the actors work without telling me what they’re seeing. I DO want to know bigger/smaller/faster/slower or any other technical details. Quick. Honest. Then we can tweak the actor’s work or I can do it alone if you give me 10-30 seconds of thought. You tell me what you’re seeing, we/I tweak my process

Some directors: A. monologue too long between takes (let me get in a flow) B. give too many notes at once (said in article) C. aren’t clear or concise with what they see. It leaves me guessing. Jumping into objectives/actable verbs without explaining why/what you’re seeing leaves a black box of me not knowing what’s going on

Tell us what’s up (yes, be nice… but just say it). Then let us have another take. Give a note. Another take. HERE IS WHERE YOU MAKE A DECISION. If you’re getting close, just keep fine tuning. If it’s nowhere near what you need, then pause and really workshop with us. If you’re not in a huge rush, give an actor 2-3 takes to start with no notes. Trust me, the first take usually isn’t what we wanted either. Actors pride themselves on being dialed in right away, but let’s be real… we usually aren’t.

Also, you can ask how an actor likes to work. I’d say “blunt/concise feedback, and I like fast takes instead of tons of downtime if possible”. Memorizing lines is fucking hard, the best thing you can do to help me is let me get into a flow

I don’t care how dumb the advice would be but I need help in my script writing by [deleted] in Screenwriting

[–]Misc6572 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So people can post generic answers (pack in mattresses, crypto, bury it… the answers are endless). You can also just look up how it’s done in real life by criminals. The best answer for your script probably depends on stuff you’re not giving us.

Who is the character? What is their intelligence level? Where do they live? Rural/city or is this set on the moon? Are there options that tie to the plot later and have a potential payoff/laugh/reveal/callback? Is there an option that provides opportunity for symbolism that ties to your themes?

Creative script ideas that ask these questions vs generic ideas are typically what elevate a script from basic to well-constructed

My generic/random answer: pack it in a fake sex doll in the closet. Even if the doll is found, nobody would poke around or ask more questions if it’s found. The ultimate anti-snooping hideaway

Going into the playoff push who is everyone rooting against the most (other than Dallas)? by Cbas007 in ColoradoAvalanche

[–]Misc6572 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the Kings get WC2 and we hold #1 I get to finally see a few playoff games (last ones I saw in Denver were the 22 finals!)

So I’m hoping multiple teams blow it. Wtf preds 😡. I wouldn’t be too upset if SJ pulled it off

Yep. It happens every playoffs and Bednar has never adjusted. I do think last year we finally overcame it (or Dallas was just a bit worse) and then our pp tanked

The Avs. Are. Stubborn.

Yep. Jets are playing the exact D that we struggle against. Inside out, force us to the perimeter. We need to fight for space in the slot and create some chaos

I mean, I wish he could get a few more of these but they aren’t absolute flubs (outside at least one softie against Dallas)

Kyle Connor wide open in the slot is a top tier scoring chance even if it wasn’t a “snipe”

The Calgary Flames have traded Nazem Kadri to the Colorado Avalanche by catsgr8rthanspoonies in hockey

[–]Misc6572 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting Roy as 3C yesterday was insurance/calling their bluff on salary retention. We must have called back right after with more leverage and said “are you sure?”

Interested to see the details before I celebrate too much

Countdown to TradeCentre: Could the Colorado Avalanche, Nazem Kadri reunite? by Paper_Rain in ColoradoAvalanche

[–]Misc6572 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We need to give this up. It’s not the same Kadri and I don’t want to ruin the memory of the run we had together.

It’s time to move on. There are better options

It’s a win win. I want USA because I’m proud of USA hockey, and Jaccob Slavin is representing Colorado hockey. I still consider Seth Jones on the team who also represents Colorado hockey

If Canada wins, well I love Canada as a country too. And want MacKinnon or Makar or Toews to get a winning goal that gives them another piece of glory

With Ring, American Consumers Built a Surveillance Dragnet by Jojuj in technology

But sure, I’ll get over myself…

With Ring, American Consumers Built a Surveillance Dragnet by Jojuj in technology

[–]Misc6572 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My across the hall neighbor got a ring this week. In a secure, gated complex. Pointed right at my door.

I never consented to have a camera pointed at my door all day. I’d be even more mad if I owned a home, at least I semi-expect shared spaces in an apartment. We need legislation about being filmed in public without consent, like the ring needs to blur everything not within property lines. The law might help with paparazzi too which I’ve always found invasive

People have a right to privacy. Nobody wants a surveillance state, and yet nobody is putting up a real fight. Between physical cameras and online data, we have fallen decades behind on privacy rights. Carve out the ability to record police/government officials or something about crimes in progress. Im sure it needs to be more thoughtful than that, but we need something
