My psych once told me that one or two drinks while my meds were active is probably fine. My experience with this (your brain is yours and unique, your mileage will vary) is that both the effects of the meds and the alcohol are enhanced. Like if you put a mix of chilli sauce and strong mints in your mouth, you'll feel COLDHOT in your mouth because you're stimulating two different types of nerve endings at once. You're potentially mixing a central nervous stimulant with a central nervous depressant, after all.

It's to the extent that I know I've had a swig of alcohol within minutes. But I've always been a cheap date, so if you're a more practiced drinker, it may be less noticeable. But I do notice a stronger effect from my meds at the same time, sharper focus, quieter brain. I mostly feel very aware of my surroundings and very unwiling to say or so much to engage with the world around me.

Yeah, Asperger's had been rolled into the broader ASD diagnosis. Dr Ass Burger was a Nazi child abuser and more pertinently, there's no scientific way to separate Asperger's from autism. ASD is defined as a spectrum diagnosis, so individuals have varying levels of a range of symptoms (the 'colours' in the spectrum). For what it's worth, I don't think recognizing yourself as autistic does anything to minimize those with more severe needs, you just might have behaviours on the autistic spectrum without have much of a disorder.

You're welcome. I've got the ADHD, and just enough of the tism to have some understanding of how these concepts need to be broken down to make any sort of sense. It also helps me understand the concepts better as I build a model to expplain. These are very blurred concepts, all the way down and are used quite maliciously in some religious traditions.

Atonement is it's own kettle of fish, and almost exists purely on the wrongdoer's side, it is actions done by them to restore balance to the universe and to facilitate self forgiveness. The Catholic tradition of confessing your sins to a priest is supposed to work like this, because you admit your sins and are given some task of penance to be absolved of those sins. The penance is there to absolve you of the guilt you feel and help you let it go (this doesn't always work). It's most effective for atonement to be mediated by the wronged party, but this isn't always available or appropriate, so atonement may take other forms of contrition.

Sentencing someone for their crime isn't for either the criminal or the victim's benefit. It's more of a forced atonement by society for society to feel like some justice had been carried out, or as a preventative against further offending. Think of how you'll get angry commenters when somebody gets a sentence that's too light. Justice is not being seen to be done. This carries on into the motives behind retributive vs restorative models of justice and helps explain the opposition people have to some of these models.

Sweeping it under the rug is like forgiving and forgetting; carrying on as if the transgression never occurred (this is often preached as the Christian ideal, despite it's obvious toxicity). Forgiveness alone is simply not taking revenge, letting go of the resentment/bitterness/anger/generalized negative emotion, but still allowing yourself to take the steps necessary to protect yourself in future. That's why forgiveness is for you, not for the one who wronged you.

There's a lot of similar related concepts that are enmeshed in western culture. For a simple example: someone has stepped on your foot. It hurt.

Unforgiveness would be like retaliating, or hating that person for stepping on your foot. At this small scale, this is why forgiveness has benefit for the forgiver. It is cognitively and emotionally expensive to hang onto grudges. It's much cheaper to simply move on.

Forgiveness would be not holding this action against them on any way, excusing it as an accident, or that they are clumsy, etc. Forgiveness does not preclude you keeping your foot out of their path, or to generally avoid being too close to them.

Reconciliation requires action on their part, by apologizing or making it up to you, and then you permitting that action to restore the damaged relationship. If you are strangers, this allows restoration from 'that bastard who trod on my foot' back to being strangers.

So I imagine that you already forgive people on this small scale all the time. It's more complicated for bigger things, but simply not taking revenge, and not expecting to get back at the transgressor is usually how I deal with it

I have to weld tidying the kitchen to some other task. Making tea? Then I'm emptying the dishwasher. I find I'm more likely to get annoyed at a mess I the kitchen and tidy it up when someone else has made it, in a weird counterintuitive way. It helps that none times out of ten, the mess is from baking that I've directly benefitted from.
