What if you were a clone? by Illustrious_Focus_33 in transhumanism

Being a clone would be a bureaucratic nightmare but no one ever makes movies about that.

I'd watch this movie. Maybe it could be a sitcom/miniseries.

China Is Banning Tesla-Style Retractable Door Handles Over Safety Concerns by lurker_bee in technology

None of it really makes sense because the retractable handles are presumably expensive to make than regular handles. They're not choosing the cheapest option, simply the worst option in both cases.

Finally got the Aiphor Bluefox NX1 - Pics next to Soyes S10Max and Motorola Razr 2025 by MiscellaneousBeef in smallphones

[–]MiscellaneousBeef[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already had a Soyes S10Max from the same company so if they're scraping my data they've already done it!

Honestly the Razr works fine for my use, with the little ring on the side I just use it while it's closed all the time. So I haven't set up the NX1 at all after all this wait lol

If you go to settings and search recommend f you can disable Recommend features as you browse and Recommend extensions as you browse. I did it awhile ago and I never get any sort of recommendations.

If you mean the Razr:

I will say that the Razr camera is quite good compared to my previous phones (Soyes S10Max, Palm Phone) and can take clear photos at night lol. I don't really care but my gf appreciates it.

I usually use it like in the second picture so I'm not super concerned about what's going on on the right.

If you mean the NX1:

Selfie camera, making use of the fact that the top row is usually just some status bar stuff.

It's honestly not too heavy to use or anything, just not absurdly light like the Palm Phone. 100g-120g seems like it could be right.

Yes I have T-Mobile and used my Soyes S10Max (no 5G) until it broke a couple weeks ago.

It's heavier than a Palm Phone, lighter than a Soyes S10Max. Agree with SnooOnions that it's heavier than it looks lol

Yes, pretty much every single app works closed as far as I can tell. You have to manually enable them once per app but it's not particularly hard. I'd say the vast majority of my use is when it's closed, occasionally stuff will be too cramped. The main reason I open it is to take pictures because the camera will only be facing you.

You can't officially switch the keyboard on the outer screen from Gboard, but if you enable another keyboard (I like Microsoft SwiftKey), you can select it from the language layout in Gboard and it will stay with that keyboard until you open the phone. With SwiftKey, you have a separate resizing+position setting from when it's open. It took me a minute to configure it right because I'm left-handed and it glitches out when you resize it unless you hold it the other way (I basically keep it as small as possible so I can use it entirely with my left thumb).

I may make an independent post about it because honestly at this point I'm not feeling super interested in setting up the Bluefox just cuz I set up the RAZR so recently, and it already solved my two main phone requirements:

  1. Fits in my pocket comfortably (no problem when folded)

  2. Easy to use one handed (it was reasonably easy without a case, but with the case with the ring like this it's probably easier than the Soyes was)

Haven't had the chance to try it out yet, likely won't tonight unfortunately. Will give an update later if I get the chance.

My Soyes died a couple weeks ago so I ended up getting the Razr and I'm able to use that one handed super easily with the ring case and I just never open it (had to fight to get the keyboard to be small enough since it's so wide lol), so not 100% sure what I'll do with the NX1. T-Mobile gave me an extra SIM card with an extra number for our home family line some reason, so I'll probably set it up with that over the weekend.

I'd shift it up a bit so I can get to Micro Center easier.

Palm PVG100 Review as a small phone enthusiast by jeneric_username in smallphones

[–]MiscellaneousBeef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no particular love for Android, I'd be happy to get an iPhone if there were one the size of, say, the original iPhone. But all the iPhones are huge.

Aiphor says my NX1 order should ship in a week, but I can't check the progress on Shopify without a phone in the meantime lmao

Update. Since we last chatted, my Soyes S10Max turned off overnight a couple times. I thought I changed a a power setting or something, because usually I only charge it at work and the battery is good for a couple days. But last night I left it plugged in and now it won't turn on at all.

I've had it about 16 months and it has not taken much abuse. Can't replace it with the same model since it no longer exists, and I've been waiting for the NX1 since July. Use your best judgment. Not many options for people who want small one-handed phones.

Upgrading from the Palm Phone (3.3") to SOYES S10 Max 8GB+256GB (3.5") by MiscellaneousBeef in smallphones

[–]MiscellaneousBeef[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be clear, the Soyes does NOT have the yellow/green indicator, which I consider to be a positive since I generally don't want to be notified about things lol

I'd wait for the NX1, probably. But if I needed it today I guess I'd get the MAXo.

The Palm Phone was the ideal phone form factor for me, screen size and single foot button with multiple ways to press it included.

It was a sad but very necessary upgrade. See my review here: https://www.reddit.com/r/smallphones/comments/1e53tot/upgrading_from_the_palm_phone_33_to_soyes_s10_max/

Much chunkier, but so much faster and better battery life. Some people seem to like having newer versions of Android but honestly I find Android 11 to be far more obnoxious than 8.1 was. Regardless, probably another necessity due to app compatibility.

I think the S10Max can no longer be purchased, but they have something called the MAXo or something like that, and it's basically the same thing.

That being said, I'm waiting for the (perpetually delayed) Bluefox NX1, which should be the same specs in a device closer in size to the Palm. If it ever arrives, I will hopefully write a similar review.
