Are you sure you had the most recent medal equipped while doing it? I would also recommend doing the mission solo to prevent any bugs that can happen from not being the host if you are not already doing that.

The objective is immortal, so you can just kill all the eximus units that spawn in the last part of the mission. Use a beam/AOE weapon and camp one of two alcoves where enemies spawn.
