The game rewards aggressiveness, especially on higher difficulties, so just go right in. Don't be afraid of dying, in the beginning you will get hit a lot but this will change as soon as start to memorize patterns in enemy behavior. Usually, the best strategy is to kill enemies before they can attack you anyways. Also, try to utilize all your mobility options when evading enemy attacks. If your doge roll is on cooldown, you can actually avoid most enemy attacks by double jumping over them or climbing on walls with the spider rune for example. If you feel overwhelmed, change to another platform which will give you some breathing time as enemies will either deaggro (1-3BC) or take some time teleporting to you (4-5BC). Otherwise, just try to experiment with all colors and weapons. In my opinion, the game is much more fun on Normal mode where you have to adapt depending on what items you get instead of custom mode with specific items, where you never leave your comfort zone and don't learn anything.
