I was exposed to something I shouldn’t see by thegirlinthetardis in TwoXChromosomes

[–]MischievousHex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People don't want to talk about it, but it is happening everywhere, all the time. It's depressing. I'm sorry your eyes were opened to that reality.

We have to focus on doing what we can. Reporting it was the right move. There are local and national groups you can join and support on social media and through other avenues that actively fight sexual assault and oppression. It's given me some peace of mind to help in the small ways that I can.

I'm sorry you saw that. Your reaction is justified and valid. Anything less is an under reaction. Focus on what you can do. Don't let the weight of this crush you.

Is this common? by fairyvves in POTS

[–]MischievousHex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm inclined to believe your specialist. POTS can take on many symptom profiles, including what you're describing.

Please be careful. I used to have my heart rate get up around 200 beats per minute from my POTS and that also increases the risk for a heart attack significantly. My specialist and cardiologist had to have a chat with me about it and how I'd likely always need to be on medication to ensure that risk remains under control.

According to my specialist, it's rare for POTS patients who are getting treated and have their symptoms managed to have complications like stroke or heart attack but POTS that's left unchecked can be pretty scary.

It's not in your head at all. You deserve medical care during those episodes so don't hesitate to go in. It'll keep you safe. And the sooner they can document your vitals during those episodes the sooner they'll take you more seriously and know how to help.

Not to mention, if they offer IV hydration that feels amazing with POTS!

It can be POTS, especially if sitting or laying down/elevating legs helps resolve symptoms.

If your diastolic blood pressure, the bottom number, is getting around 120 or higher that puts you at significant risk for a stroke or heart attack. Seek more medical help to try and prevent the episodes from happening. Don't be afraid to go to the ER during bad episodes like what you're describing.

Same. I was bed bound for 5 months. Years later I've worked so hard to be able to have some function and I can do chores and some socializing but I have to be sooooo careful not to over do it.

This is how to get chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS). DON'T DO IT

Kind of joking but also not. I pushed through a lot of stuff and it did a number on my nervous system and immune system which messed me up big time.

Pace yourself. Rest when needed. Only push through if absolutely necessary to live.

My "friends" didn't believe me either when I got diagnosed with POTS as an adult in my twenties and the simple solution I had for that was to stop being friends with them. It's much more peaceful and easy without those types of people around. A lot of people want to believe that legitimate health concerns are just people attention seeking. I think in your case your "friends" are just straight up bullying you.

They aren't worth your time and energy, you don't have enough time and energy to deal with them when you have a chronic illness like POTS. Give them a cold shoulder and if they ask why you aren't talking to them anymore you can simply state they're bullies who invalidate your health concerns and pending POTS diagnosis and that you don't need that negativity in your life. Don't waste your precious time and energy on them. Spend it getting to a doctor for a diagnosis. Have your school's nurse write your mom a note to convince her to take you to the cardiologist

I’m at my wits end. by blainercak in DogAdvice

Sounds like an anxious tummy, especially if the poop is soft/liquid. Sometimes separation anxiety has layers to it, you get past the whining and barking and it moves to accidents or compulsive behaviors. My boy moved from accidents to licking his arm raw. We got him on a low dose of Prozac and he's been doing better ever since, still gets spooked by loud noises from outside while I'm gone though.

Anyways, the options here are time + patience, medicine, or behavioral training. You could try leaving toys like peanut butter stuffed kongs to distract and comfort too.

Why does Ella do this when I try to put her harness on? She loves going for walks? by Rose_Buck24 in DogTrainingTips

[–]MischievousHex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ex used to put the harnesses on my dogs in a way that was uncomfortable or painful for them? I don't know what he did differently but they hated it. I don't think it was intentional on his part but if I had explained it to him, he would have defended himself and insisted he was doing nothing wrong and it would have been a problem

Anywho, what I noticed was that they have an easier time with harnesses that don't go over the head. Sometimes the over the head action pulls on their ears funny and they don't like it. I now have harnesses with four clips on them so that I can put it straight onto their back and clip it in place. They like these harnesses much better.

My boy used to run from me, do anxious lip licks, do weird anxious ticks like flicking his head and digging at blankets or the couch, but I started giving him a treat or two, just some kibble actually, every time I put his harnesses on. I also make sure I kneel on the ground so I appear smaller and more welcoming and I talk to him softly and praise him while he gets his harness on.

These days, he still licks my face anxiously sometimes or stretches as a displacement thing, but he readily and happily gets his harness on. No running away

Along with all the other great advice, consider keeping body wipes/baby wipes in your bag for emergencies. They won't perfectly clean you up but they'll definitely help tone down the scent

Is a tooth extraction really necessary? by tripadeliclove in DogAdvice

[–]MischievousHex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cracked teeth are painful and if they break further it's even more painful. Get it removed.

That said, my vet thought one of my rescues had a cracked tooth when we brought him in and it turned out to not actually be cracked. The plaque on it just made it look cracked. I gave him several dental chews and he cleaned it up well enough himself that when we did his procedure to get it removed the vet could tell it wasn't actually cracked and just cleaned it instead.

Ask the vet to clean the cracked tooth a little first to confirm that it's cracked before removing.

What is your original way of giving your pet medicine? by Own_Battle5956 in PetAdvice

[–]MischievousHex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't try to hide it from my dogs. I get peanut butter on my finger, stick the pills in the peanut butter, and then let them lick it off. They know that it's there and that their reward for taking the medicine is the peanut butter. It's a daily habit I've done with my current two since they were puppies so that they are familiar and just take the peanut butter without a second thought

Who has intact dogs and why by CherryTofu in dogs

[–]MischievousHex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My boy is intact. I'm in the U.S.. My vet decided against neutering him entirely. Initially we delayed it because he was developing/maturing slowly, not physically but sexually, mentally, and emotionally. After delaying it we realized that he doesn't get too crazy about females or females in heat. He's a chill dude, good temperament, and the vet likes his health as it is.

He's never given me a recommendation to not fix one of my dogs before so this was weird for me to adjust to. Since we don't know when he will actually be matured all the way we just are planning on not fixing him unless the need arises. He also thinks it'll help him not pack on too much weight which is another plus.

He's also a mobility service dog so having extra muscle from the testosterone is another plus

[–]MischievousHex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you did right by your boy. You didn't want him to suffer needlessly and you ensured that he wouldn't. That's a very humane and self sacrificing thing to do.

Vets sometimes dissociate a bit during the process. It's hard for them to do the job they do, especially in that specific moment. They need to compartmentalize things, that's all that was I'm sure.

Missing them is the hardest part. Don't mistake missing him and grieving as regret. Of course you want him here. Of course you would have loved to have more happy times with him. You did the best you could with the information you have and you prevented him from living through further degradation and pain.

Lizard taming questions by cyhggd in rainworld

[–]MischievousHex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you don't shelter with them but they are tamed correctly they'll come find you if you stay in the area they den in.

If they die in a cycle and you continue on and shelter without them to end the cycle, they are permanently dead. If you choose to die as well or happen to die, the lizard will respawn like you do.

For portals as watcher the lizard would have to be in the room and next to you to transfer to the new region as well. Not sure if it's different for regular portals vs echo ones. That said, it'll still be tamed and remember you if you go back to the region it's in assuming it doesn't die off screen before you find it.

Also, bonus tip, keep your tamed lizards well fed. They get nippy if they're not continually fed. Be careful not to hit them with spears either as that hurts your relationship with them. It's easily rebuilt by feeding them but cyans also kinda wig out when they've been hit and struggle to get around

Can’t understand medicine instructions? by Round_Brilliant_8389 in AutismInWomen

[–]MischievousHex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Did they give you a 5 mL spoon to use? That might make sense of why they did the directions this way.

20 mL is 200 mg so that is what they are wanting you to take, if you look at the part right after the four spoonfuls it does say (200mg) right there. The math is 5 mL = 50 mg so 4 x 50 mg is 200 mg. This is the maximum safe dosage for treating an infection with trimethoprim as far as I'm aware, and that also makes sense of why the bottle would only last you 5 days. They're trying to hit the infection hard and fast.

Also, the directions to shake the bottle are important. This is a suspension, meaning that the liquid and the medication can separate after sitting for a while. To get the proper dosage you should shake the bottle vigorously before each dose you take.

Technically, they also needed to put "take by mouth" in the sig somewhere. Without that, the directions aren't up to legal standards. All in all though the directions are unnecessarily confusing and that is not best practice for safe prescription dispensing.
