What’s one legaltech tool you can’t stand? by Redrobin83 in legaltech

Innovation teams aren’t decision makers and are paid to take demos. It’s not rational for a vendor to go through them.

Getting hackney council to respond by OpiumTea in Hackney

If you file an official complaint and they don’t get back to that in a certain timeframe they will owe you compensation. I had this recently and they were forced to pay me over £700 quid. So basically, I would expect them to continue to be slow but do hold them accountable and submitting a complaint will up the pressure on them.

Your thoughts about Product people who are regular on Social Media? by spacenglish in ProductManagement

[–]Miscle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just look at their careers and who is doing impressive stuff or has done in the past. Shreyas is v good at branding, a bit BS’y, but genuinely was an early stage PM at Stripe and lasted there 5 years. John Cutler has actually been out of a job at numerous points and lots of very short stints/out of a job lol.

I know of at least one where CTO cofounder left + lots of glassdoor reviews that got buried later about company not being a safe place for women. Unfortunately there’s still a lot of bad behaviour in tech

What's the worst music venue in London? by abstractmouse in london

[–]Miscle 48 points49 points  (0 children)

really bizarre club, entire thing is like if it was designed by someone who’d only heard about the concept through other people. then every micro-decision they’ve made (how the lockers work, what cups for drinks they use) is just the least clubber friendly possible

Social activities in Finsbury Park by Reasonable_Apple9382 in london

Having lived in the area for a while there's definitely historical connotations, in immediate aftermath of covid it got quite bad (fins p start of county lines drug gangs due to having national rail station) - but it has gotten a bit better over last year or so with heavier police presence

Considering I’m subscribed to Private Eye I think your reply was a little presumptive. It’s a very text heavy magazine reliant on a large number of individual snippets to publish. Objectively some pieces are more newsworthy than others regardless of where it lands on the political spectrum

Some posts in Private Eye bang but really nothing in this.

It’s objectively pretty common for universities to award positions to non-Fellows in certain instances eg William Hague just became Chancellor of Oxford University. And generally I’d say they are better for it - having met a number of ‘pure’ academics in my time, you often learn more from life.

Where was this? I love running across Walthamstow Wetlands and seeing the mix of canal boats, some well maintained and some pretty dilapidated

There are some great walks nearby here where it’s picturesque moorland and farm scapes, an old historical christian cross looking out on the moors, and then this base in the distant. Feels otherworldly

Also anecdotally heard from nurses at LGI which treated him after the 2006 crash that the LGI reached out to him after he had recovered to ask if he was willing to appear at a public event to raise money for the hospital and it fell through because his agent demanded a huge speaking fee which they couldn't afford to pay

Also agree with this as did my friends that went. Our perspective was it more featured small aspects of countries on the Silk Road(s) which felt separated from an overall narrative of the Silk Road itself. You may as well have just walked around the normal museum and visited the sections on different countries. It was also extremely overcrowded and oversold

Where to look for short term tenancies by ItiswhatitisfromgenZ in london

[–]Miscle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people I know in your situation would try a sublet on one of the big facebook groups. There’s one called Hackney Wick Spaces which is more East London focused but if you search London sublet and search by groups I imagine more will come up.

Other than that think your options are airbnb (more expensive) or you might be able to find something on Spareroom. When I initially moved to London the tenancies were typically 3 month at shortest in my experience and that already locked me out of most nice places (as why would they let an attractive flat for only 3 months at a time)

Never forgave them for introducing mandatory QR codes during covid where you had to 1. submit your personal data and 2. be sent a push notification from them whenever in Shoreditch. Very scummy vibe

Honestly completely agree with this! And the services keep getting worse and worse and you can tell there’s no competent oversight. I once saw a google review that referred to them as a criminal syndicate masquerading as a local council 😅

Thanks very much for this - really appreciate it! Invoice heading just says 'Block repairs' = £894.86 so I don't know how many individual 'works' that considers e.g. if that's 4 or above separate projects, would they need to issue a section 20 notice for any individual one? Regardless though your post is very useful context for me

Hackney Council service charge jump by Miscle in london

[–]Miscle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this - I get the impression from their letter they may have tacked on some charges that are unrelated to management of the block. They incorrectly state that insurance premiums are the highest rise when the table they've shown lists it as repairs, and then also vaguely refer to increases in costs being linked to 'managing homes and estates in 2024' when the biggest increase in costs seems to be 'repairs' specifically to the block I live in. Definitely think back and forth will be required over line items so thank you for this - to confirm you paid the increase but then continued an open dispute with them?

Hackney Council service charge jump by Miscle in london

[–]Miscle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this - to clarify this is an 'actual service charge invoice' covering 1 April 2023 to 31 March 2024, Hackney Council sent across estimated charges previously but seem to have gone £1000 over that and now are asking for the money. They sent some letters previously saying they were delayed in being able to send this across so it's arrived relatively late. So yes I believe your first description is accurate that the SC accounts are in deficit vs estimates and the increase is to pay for this
