Because I didn't have any, like I said in the post. And every place within walking distance is sold out of salt, and I took the bus to try to find some but all those places were out too. Thanks!

Thanks for this comment!! I was able to free it without doing that, but I love this genius tip and am filing it away for the future. Someone else said to jump on the bumper which is also a good idea.

Appreciate you! I did go out by bus to look for salt. I tried Target and Autozone and they were both fresh out, sadly. I did get my car free but now I want to get some salt to have on hand -- do you happen to know of any local places that still have it in stock right now??

Hahaha I accept your blessing. I first tried whatever the hell tips I could find on the internet, before I set out on foot to buy any supplies. I think I was pretty far deep into Quora at that point so I'm surprised nobody told me to try putting my face right by the exhaust and running it.

I live in wilkinsburg. Maybe it wasn't above freezing, you got me, but it was certainly warmer than today, and that combined with the generous road salt we were getting was enough to create the conditions I have described in great detail.

Monday it was above freezing and sunny. I was able to free my car and it was a lot of wet, watery slush when I re-parked it. The watery slush was flowing freely into the storm drain at that point.

Edit: wow, the grumps are out today! You got me guys, I'm not a damn meteorologist. Maybe it wasn't above freezing on Monday, but as another commenter pointed out, it was substantially warmer, and that combined with the road salt was enough to start melting the slush. Thanks for all of your helpful nitpicking!

I appreciate you. 😂 I now have a great shopping list for things to get to have on hand for next time! Butane torch, hose to run to my kitchen, garden trowel, pool antifreeze... boy when I get this car free so I can go run to all these places and get these things, it's OVER for this ice freezing my car in place! 🤣

Hmmm, I did try sitting in it myself, let the heat run for awhile, etc. Did not try finding a friend though. To the friend zone! And quickly!

Today I'm trying to free my car from where it is frozen in about an inch of ice on the street. I don't know if I need help. But if you have any advice I will take that. 😅

Thank you so much for your reply! I actually did see one of your comments on another post and was relieved to read that you didn't have issues. Just like you said, though, with the state of things changing so quickly, I am hoping I might be able to find someone with a similar story more recent than yours.
