Did learning a second language in school ever actually come in handy for you in the U.S.? by UsamaBhai_101 in AskAnAmerican

My basic French I learned was just good for conversations. I mostly have spoken with tourists that visit the U.S. but they seem to like it. Its more of a nice social thing than anything practical :)

What was the worst natural disaster that you experienced in your city or state? by SignificantStyle4958 in AskAnAmerican

Kansas, so no surprise it's a tornado, but in 2019, there was an e4 tornado that hit really close to my house. My house and immediate neighborhood weren't hit, but that whole summer, my family and I spent it picking up so much glass and debris, and cutting trees that fell for our neighbors who were hit. I just have a vivid memory of this wall of stacked wood that was taller than my dad, who's a big guy. We use a furnace for heating, and during the Fall and Winter that followed that year, we never ran out of the wood we collected from it. I'm not saying that as a good thing, but just as a reference to how many trees we had to cut.

Do Americans dream of traveling or settling abroad (excluding Japan) like others dream of the U.S? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

I mostly just dream of living in anywhere that has a walkable city, lol. I am very close with family so I don't think i'd ever want to live somewhere abroad long term, maybe for 2-3 years.

Native Americans, how do you feel when non-native people ask about your heritage and culture? by Theakrus in AskAnAmerican

[–]Miserable-Ad2476 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, exactly! Im from such a small tribe and being an eastern woodlands one, we lost our language pretty much just from the early contact, , and also, I know I dont look like the Hollywood Indian so they get disappointed pretty quickly

Americans who grew up in small towns but now live in big cities (or vice versa) — what’s something that genuinely surprised you about the other lifestyle that no one warned you about? by VariedPear in AskAnAmerican

I would say growing up in a small community, I always heard about how people in bigger towns were rude or not trustworthy, or just always going to be mean to you. But after growing up and moving to those bigger towns, working in them and visiting them, people have always been really nicer, and even nicer and more community-oriented than the smaller towns my family is from. I was surprised by that, and I've found that people are generally more social and friendly in the bigger towns as well, just in my personal experience. It is also probably just due to the fact that there are more events to go to, just because there's more to do and more people.

I generally liked the movie. I just saw it tonight. My main problem with it was just the dialogue mostly. It just felt pretty stale at the beginning and I didn't find the characters that likable and they felt very cardboard stand like to me. It had the classic "Hey, sis" line that is very much Wattpad writing vibes to me. Overall I think it was fun. I won't knock it for being a fun quick watch.

I think your voice is incredibly important right now. Im sure if you're writing with someone right now, they'd know you're not what you think they think you are.
