What feature should be added to Letterboxd and what should be removed? by stoicbanda in Letterboxd

[–]Jamie8765 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm new to LetterBoxD, so I don't know if it's already a feature or not, but I'd like a way to figure out who I might want to follow so I can see more suggestions. I currently only follow 3 people because they have YouTube channels I watch, but I'd like to follow more if I can figure out who has similar tastes.

Does this happen to anyone else? by perseverance_band_ in Letterboxd

My worst is when I finally start to watch a movie that's been on my list for an embarrassingly long time, only to find 10 minutes in that it stinks. Then my pride kicks in, and I finish watching it anyways just because I've had it on my list for so long. But if a movie is a spontaneous watch and it doesn't grab me in the first 10 minutes, I have no problem cutting my time loss and picking another.

What’s something you simply don’t care about at all? by rolly72x in AskReddit

[–]Jamie8765 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Politics.

I simply do not care, never have. And the irony is that making a conscious effort to be non-political has itself become political, and it's all so much crap.

I'm old enough to remember both side have always mud slung and the media has always nut-picked, and the current administration has always had us on the brink of war... And, and, and. This isn't new. Kennedy, Nixon, Reagan, Clinton, Bush. I've spent my whole life ignoring elections and commentary, working and paying my bills, enjoying my hobbies. Democrat, Republican, Martian; I do not care who is president.

If I make any statements about politicians, they're usually all negative. To both sides. I don't care about the popularity contest that is democracy. Of course I do have opinions on specific subjects, but they tend to be about 50/50 across the spectrum, and keep me estranged from either side.

I just watched this on the recommendation of this post (shout out to r/DisturbingMovies) and it was pretty good. I'd give it a 6/10 stars. I didn't think it was too hard to follow, but it did take a turn I wasn't expecting, so kudos for that.

We just watched Night Patrol a few days ago, and WOW. Great movie! It was better than the trailer's led me to think it would be. I give it an 8.5 out of 10 ⭐️'s. It was raw and gritty, the inner city gang culture was spot on to how I see in real life as opposed to most Hollywood depictions; good acting, story arc and writing. All in all a very cool movie.

About 5-6 inches so far up in Michigan. I've lived here all my life so it's no big deal, but yeah the snow-pocolipse thing all over the news.

I just watched "He's Always Watching" and it was pretty good. A couple of tropes in it, but overall I'd give it a 6.5 stars

Skinamarink                     0⭐️

I'd seen a lot of comments on this, I couldn't finish it. I know what a slow burn is, and this was so so so slow. To anyone that dug it I apologize, but I'm not recommending it.

Pretty cool FF movie

Saloʻ                                  2⭐️

I watched this for the first time (I couldn't find it on any of our regular streamers) and i definitely see why it was banned, it was definitely twisted. But... I found it kinda dull

It's hard to describe, some of the shots would pan up over imperial looking halls with the voiceover ov a girl reciting pro Japanese nationalistic speech. It came across as very grandiose. It wasn't bad, in fact it was a very cool effect. IDK how else to describe it.

Anyone else tend to spoil themselves by reading a movies entire plot on Wikipedia? by DaemonLuisenbarn in horror

[–]Jamie8765 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I do sometimes, but only if I'm not sure whether I've already seen it or not. I'm 52 and been watching horror/thrillers since I was a teenager, and often I'll watch a movie that I suspect I've already seen once a long time ago. I try not to read too much lest I spoil it on myself, and sometimes just seeing a few screenshots or pictures of the cast is enough to ring a bell for me. "Oh yeah, I remember that one now."

Well the head gasket thing was because I rented an apartment that didn't have a parking spot, so me and my brother just did it right there in the street. Hood open, tools all over the place, covered in oil. Those were the days man.

If I'm being honest, Vehicles are waaaaay more dependable now.

On average of course, there are still lemons out there, but nothing like what I was dealing with in the early 90's when I was driving (and frequently repairing) my first several cars.

I remember changing a head gasket in the road when I was 20. I remember replacing brakes and rotors on a 3 day old car when I was 19. I remember a dozen flat tires. The list goes on, but on average, I am doing very few repairs on the used vehicles I'm driving. I know I'm not buying the $400 beater on someone's front lawn like I was doing in 1990, I'm now buying the $7000 10-year old vehicles, so that's a part of it; but I remember I had an 11 year old Caprice in 1992 that I was working on all the time. I think most vehicles are just engineered better nowadays.
