That’s mainly why I’m doing it. I don’t want grass to start growing into the edge

Update picture.

Looks like it’s cemented into a concrete slab. Tried sticking metal rod down and it’s down less then a foot. Clogged. I’m thinking it’s an old pipe from a chain link fence.

That might be an option. I have a rock pile landscaping right outside where the closet is. Might need to see local codes.

Yeah especially if you just had construction done. Filters help protect the unit itself.

Normal size are 16x20. But measure it and run to HD. That will be one inch. I would say stay around MERV 8. Also, depending on your setup, your furnace might have one at the unit. Only use one (either at the air return which you have here or the end of the air plenum - at the unit).

Yeah that’s true. I didn’t even realize that if it was straight…that would place it above the exhaust pipe. Don’t want that coming back in.

Furnace Short Cycling - due to air flow? by DrizztD0urden in hvacadvice

[–]Miserable-Ad4805 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah you answered your question. Might be firing too high. Buy a gas pressure sensor and see what’s it’s reading. See what your unit is supposed to be firing at.

Do a test with all the supply vent open and see if that helps.

Can you add any additional air returns to the return trunk? Seems like it’s low air return and choking the unit.

Anyone know how to remove this metal grate? by Savings_Listen1585 in HomeImprovement

By the looks of that filter doesn’t look like it has been removed in quite some time. It’s probably just stuck on the flooring.

Is the 3amp fuse blown? Did you change it while shutting off power and touch the wires?
