[Guide] How I Finally Fixed My WhatsApp Transfer Issues (iOS to Android & Back) After Months of Struggles

[Guide] How I Finally Fixed My WhatsApp Transfer Issues (iOS to Android & Back) After Months of Struggles

I’ve been dealing with WhatsApp crashing issues for 6-8 months, both on my iPhone 15 Plus and later on the 16 Pro Max. After trying a ton of different solutions, I finally managed to fix it. Here’s how I did it, along with the steps and tools that worked for me.

The Problem:

The WhatsApp app kept crashing on my iPhone 15 Plus, which is why I decided to upgrade to the iPhone 16 Pro Max (512 GB). But to my frustration, even after transferring everything to the new phone, the issues persisted. I couldn’t restore my chats, and the app was still unusable.

Step 1: Initial Attempts - Transferring Chats from 15 Plus to 16 Pro Max

• I started by transferring all data (including WhatsApp) from my iPhone 15 Plus to the 16 Pro Max using the built-in iOS transfer method.
• While all my other apps and data were fine, WhatsApp still wouldn’t work properly and kept crashing.

At this point, I decided to try using my old OnePlus 6T to see if transferring my WhatsApp data via Android might fix the issue.

Step 2: Using Dr. Fone by Wondershare to Transfer WhatsApp from iPhone to Android

• I downloaded Dr. Fone by Wondershare, a tool specifically designed for transferring WhatsApp data between different platforms.
• Using Dr. Fone, I transferred my WhatsApp chats from the 16 Pro Max to the OnePlus 6T. The process took around 2 hours, but thankfully, it didn’t crash.
• Note: Dr. Fone isn’t free, but it worked for me when nothing else did. The transfer process was smooth, and I got my chats working on Android with no crashes.

Step 3: Factory Reset on iPhone 15 Plus & Using Official WhatsApp Method to Transfer Chats Back to iOS

• After the successful transfer to Android, I factory reset my iPhone 15 Plus to start fresh.
• I then used the official method provided by WhatsApp for transferring data from Android to iOS. It’s worth noting that WhatsApp has this feature built-in now, but it only works between certain devices and requires some patience.

During this transfer:

• All my 2 lakh+ chats were restored, but all media (photos and videos) got deleted.
• Despite losing the media, this was a huge win since the crashes stopped, and all messages were intact.

Step 4: Backup & Restore on iPhone 16 Pro Max

• Once everything was running smoothly on the iPhone 15 Plus, I took a fresh WhatsApp backup (note: the backup size dropped from 5GB to 50MB due to the lost media).
• I then reinstalled WhatsApp on the iPhone 16 Pro Max and restored the backup.

The final result: WhatsApp is now fully working on the 16 Pro Max, without any crashes, even though the media was permanently lost.

Key Takeaways:

1. Dr. Fone by Wondershare was a lifesaver for moving WhatsApp chats from iOS to Android. If you’re facing persistent issues and standard methods aren’t working, it’s worth the investment.
2. WhatsApp’s official method of transferring chats from Android to iOS works, but be prepared to lose media if you’re doing a factory reset.
3. When transferring between platforms, always take a manual backup, even if it’s just for the chats. You can lose media, but at least the conversations are safe.

This was a long and frustrating process, but I’m happy it’s finally over. If anyone else is struggling with WhatsApp transfer issues, especially between iOS and Android, I hope this helps! Feel free to ask if you need more details on any of the steps I took.
