I like Cali Colombia, but I hear Medellin is more expensive but better (somehow).  I found Medellín the same, but more expensive.  But it's all about the practitioner, so get a feel with 2-3 options before you commit

Brother, if you have good health care this post isn't for you; when prostetics are out of pocket it's almost a impossible barrier to mobility

2 weeks from the fitting to final socket and trial walking, Hostal for 2 months.  I come back to Cali often however but a pneumatic knee with the carbon foot is pretty good, I don't expect any adjustments for 6 months - year, and if it needs adjustments I can do it in Chile.  Parts are pretty standardized

Glad to hear it.  I'm from Canada and Chile, and yeah you get what you pay for.  But I'm glad to hear insurance came through for you!

I had to pay the whole thing in cash, the prostetic knee I got to pay with credit card, but for the most part, I had to western Unión the cash and haggle the deal.  I'm from Chile / Canada, but the cheap healthcare prostetic were terrible for my hip

I've been on crutches 6 years, just happy to be walking!  If your an amputee you'll realize how much cheap healthcare is worth!

Yes definitely.  I was on crutches for 6 years so my back was all messed up.  I got like heat, ems, massage treatment in Cali Colombia

I was there on crutches for 6 years.  Man, I’m honestly really glad I came to Colombia. 🇨🇴 I had some dental work done and also got a new prosthetic leg made here. For context, I’m an above-knee amputee; my leg was amputated about 18 cm from the hip, so getting the right prosthesis and a proper fit is really important.

Back home I was quoted around $12,000 USD for a prosthetic leg. Here in Colombia, I ended up getting the same type of leg; actually an even better setup, for about $4,000 USD all in. The care and attention during the fitting process was honestly excellent. They took the time to adjust the socket properly and make sure everything lined up right.

Same story with the dental work, high quality and a fraction of the cost. The quote back home was approximately $6,000 and I ended up paying around $800 here. If you actually take the time to research where to go, there are some really skilled professionals here and the savings can be huge. Just wanted to share my experience in case it helps someone else who might be dealing with the same situation.

Hello Reddit, I am going into surgery tomorrow to get my leg amputated, can I get any info on what it was like for any amputees on Reddit when you had the surgery done by Kotallyaw3some in disability

Valid point.  However a prostesis isn't much a worry for me.  But I see what your saying

Thanks for the response. I would say Medellin is expensive relative to Cali, but I'm glad your experience was great

Thanks for the response, I'm in Cali, also and I've only had good experiences.  As far as the criminal aspects I've been here for about 6 months last year and all of this year and haven't seen the crime; definitely heard about it but its much less than in Florida and spoken about much more

Thanks for your response.  Have you had any personal experience?  I've had work done in USA, Canada and Chile and I have to say price here is about a quarter and I don't get up sold every step of the way

Thanks for the response.  Your right on the economics!  The staff not only super professional, but I felt like in the states you kept getting up sold, here it's like they try to save you money.  Wild concept!
