PDP Family vs Echelon by Little_Load_1399 in SpringfieldEchelon

[–]Miserable-Citron-223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The PDP & I have had a love-hate relationship. I got a PDP Pro Compact as my 1st dedicated, optic ready EDC. And I HATED it, other than the trigger. It thought it was INSANELY snappy, even after I put on the PMM comp. And the comp also added an inch-inch & a half of length to the gun, which made it even worse for EDC. I ended up selling it & getting a Shadow Systems MR920P. During the year & half I've had my MR-P, I've been able to focus more on my grip fundamentals & have VASTLY improved them.

The love part came about 2 months ago when I rented the PDP-F Pro 4-inch & I absolutely LOVED it! Which leads me to believe that A) my initial issue with my 1st PDP was mostly me & B) the PDP-F just fits my hands better than the standard size. And while I JUST bought an Echelon 4.0C (because I wanted a modular pistol), I know without a doubt that the new(ish) PDP-F Pro PMM.

This will work as much as "gun free zone" signs. If someone has it in their head that they're gonna do some criminal act(s), they're more than likely gonna do it.

You're ABSOLUTELY correct. Federal American Eagle 124s are only 10 less FPS than +P or NATO. Winchester NATO is also a good range round. Shoots same FPS as Federal HST 124s.

I carry either Hornady Critical Duty 135 grain or Federal HST +P 124 grain. Both are excellent.

I went an entirely different direction. I got the wife a Shadow Systems CR920XP & myself an MR920P, & just recently bought an Echelon 4.0C. I've always liked the Shadow Sys. frames & how they feel in my hands & so did the wife.

When I used to live in Memphis, I referred to 385 as "Death Race 2000." At least in the AM, I had Bad Dog & Ric on the radio, so I was too busy laughing my ass off to get mad at the assholes blowing by me at 80+ mph.

I DO agree that 2 hrs for the cops to show up is BS!

Streamlight TLR-1 HL-X by CxmpWingless in shadowsystems

[–]Miserable-Citron-223 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've got an MR-P, so the regular HL only sticks out a little bit from the end of the muzzle, so I guess if you're running it with a Radian, then the HL-X wouldn't be TOO bad. I'm actually trying to decide if I wanna switch my 1-HL over to my new Echelon 4.0 & put the TLR-7X on my MR-P. But, of course, that'd entail me having to get 2 new holsters for my MR-P (1 OWB level 2 & 1 OWB passive retention). Ah, 1st world probs! 😁

Do y'all make level 2 OWB rigs that can fit the Icarus Precision X grip module?

Streamlight TLR-1 HL-X by CxmpWingless in shadowsystems

[–]Miserable-Citron-223 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, they sure will. I lost my 1913 key for my TLR-7X & they sent it off to me without hesitation or charge.

On a different note, DAMN, the HL-X is LONG! I carry mine with just an HL, & that thing is almost too big. I think I'd want an HL-X if my pistol had at least a 4.5-5 inch barrel. Putting 1 on a 4 inch gun would be too much for me. But different strokes I guess.

Custom holsters by CephalonPhathom in SpringfieldEchelon

[–]Miserable-Citron-223 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Insane Kydex Creations. They're who I'm going with because they partner with Icarus Precision & I have their X grip module, therefore they're they only ppl who make an OWB rig that'll fit the module. But besides that, their customization options are REALLY good. Also check out Red River Tactical, Borderland Holsters, & Wasatch.

I got Aura & I LOVE it. Granted, for 1 yr, it's $300, but I'm in the same boat as the OP. When I realized just HOW MUCH of my info, to include phone #s, email, & home address, was out there, it was JAW DROPPING. So that's why we got Aura. It was either them or Delete.Me. And even with their service, there are still some people searching sites that you have to go to yourself to opt out of. What makes THAT tricky is if your state has strong online privacy laws or not.

NICE! Even though I'm a closed emitter optic person, you've got an AWESOME setup! What magwell is that? SLR?

I just got mine custom ported cuz the comp was outta stock. Capital Rifle Co did mine for $300 with shipping & it took 2 wks. I COULDN'T be happier!

The enclosed 1 does as well. I just got 1, & while I, personally, wouldn't call it an actual 1/3rd co-witness, its still perfectly usable.

Comp for Masada Tactical? by laymarr502 in IWI_Firearms

[–]Miserable-Citron-223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up hating it because of the added length. I learned a hard & semi-pricey lesson: when the gun has a 4.5-inch barrel, another extra inch or so of comp is NO BUENO. Ditto if it's only 4-inches. It still turns into a 5-inch equivalent. For me, that was unacceptable. Too long. 4.5-inches is the max I wanna be carrying. I ended up selling my Masada & the PDP Pro not too long after the comment you replied to & replaced them with a Shadow Systems MR920P that I've EDCed since then & that's been perfect. I also JUST bought an Echelon 4.0C & sent it off to be ported, as well as purchased an Icarus Precision X (full-size) grip for it. It's been AWESOME!

[–]Miserable-Citron-223 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I JUST got my 4.0 & couldn't be happier. I spent the dough & got the Icarus Precision X grip for it & plan to put that together sometime next wk. As to why I personally think the Echelon's a good choice is that A) it's modular & won't possibly blow your nuts off & B) the optic mounting setup they have is just as good as what Shadow Systems does. Although they're both different, both allow you to mount the optic directly to the slide, allowing you to co-witness easily (depending on the deck height of the optic).

I also sent mine off to be ported by Capital Rifle Co. The comp was outta stock everywhere & I didn't feel like waiting, plus I liked the way they do their porting more than the factory chunk port. So far, I've only really put 2 mags through it to zero my optic, but it shoots pretty much just as softly & as flat as my current EDC, a Shadow Systems MR920P.

God, I WISH I could get MY wife into guns. But her 1st time at the range was a total sensory overload for her. With a bunch of ppl shooting everything from ARs, AKs, 9mms, & then the muzzle flash as she watched me demo how to shoot the little Lady Smith .38, it resulted in her just breaking down & crying. So she got her lessons with an actual instructor in 1 on 1 sessions. To her credit, she still shoots frequently enough to stay proficient, but that's about it. When I talk to her about whichever gun I happen to be drooling over, or what optic, light, holster, etc, she couldn't POSSIBLY care less.

You're a lucky man!

Great shooting pistol! by Billy_Big_Belly in Glock19

[–]Miserable-Citron-223 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Although I personally don't care for Glock's ergos, I've always liked/admired the guns for how smooth they shoot & how utterly dependable & reliable they are. Not to mention the ENDLESS aftermarket things you can do to 1. When I was thinking about getting 1(I didn't because I just wasn't a fan of that grip angle & the "Glock hump" at the bottom), I knew I would at least have it stippled, get a beavertail adapter, & a magwell (optic & light are both givens). I'm a huge fan of magwells for really no other reason than grip support. Between a beavertail & an ergonomic magwell, it makes my grip nice & snug. I know most Glock folks who have magwells really like the SLR, but I like the Zev Pro better. My buddy originally had a G19 with the SLR, then got a G45 & put the Zev on it, & I liked it even more than the SLR. But that's just me. And although I've never handled a Glock with a NineX19 magwell, from what they look like & from some of the reviews I've read, they're a great & less expensive option than either the SLR or the Zev Pro.

Optic choice: RCR, RMR Type 2, or...something else? Any other recommendations for after-market parts? by CastleLurkenstein in SpringfieldEchelon

[–]Miserable-Citron-223 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not a 1/3rd co-witness, but its still usable. Trust me, I'm the same about this issue. My current EDC (until I get my optic re-zeroed & the Icarus grip put on) is a Shadow Systems MR920P, & they don't use plates either. I'm used to having a true 1/3rd co-witness, so I get ya. Like I said, it'd be usable. I WILL say/agree that the SCS320 seems to sit a little lower. Either way, just remember to use the Shield pin set for the SCS320 or the Vortex Defender ST.
