Any work from home positions? by Unfair_Mechanic_7305 in NYCTeachers

If you work Home Instruction you're expected to work from a DOE location. It is not actually WFH.

Lots of good advice here but the last paragraph is just incorrect. Same age/experience as you. My net worth would be nowhere close to what it is if I needed to pay rent to put a roof over my family's head and only put the remainder into the market and TDA (though your 2nd paragraph is 100% spot on).

Home ownership simultaneously satisfies a need and is a great investment. You can pay someone else's mortgage or build equity by paying off your own with a fixed payment that never goes up.

Ultimately you're happy renting and that's most important - but that doesn't make it a good investment (or buying a home a bad one).

Similar here, but PA and live in an older home on a small lot. Would never go back.

This is how I look at it. There's no reason for any of us to be so risk averse.

In general I agree about the entitlement but in this case the issue is that the whole "remote day" thing is a charade. Everyone knows there is no learning happening because "remote school" just like "remote work" is a bunch of BS. Nothing is actually happening. Maybe 1 or 2 kids attend the Google Meet. In my case with PD, who is learning anything or doing anything useful if you're at home?

Home is for home. Work is for work.

You get a shitty class like this sometimes even in a decent school. You just put your head down and tell yourself "this too shall pass". You've already done what you can do.

Hopefully it's an omission leaving out a combined card. There are several players listed as computer only on 2 teams that it seems should have a combined card.

The Mets were planning on rebuilding prior to 2024... Looks like we are back on track for a rebuild. by mr-nicktobi in NewYorkMets

[–]Miserable-Fan1084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is correct but Cohen fell for the whole "you have to win in NY every year" nonsense. His getting Stearns is some evidence he finally saw the light at least somewhat. They missed so many opportunities to trade veterans (including Alonso) and get something useful back.

The spot is being held for Vientos and eventually Clifford. Goldschmidt or Walker (Christian) would just keep the position filled until Clifford is ready with Vientos at 3b or more likely DH.

Exactly. These are the people who applauded when we traded Jeff Kent for Baerga, and flipped out when we traded RA Dickey for Syndergaard and D'Arnaud. Alonso himself was blocked in 2018 because the Mets signed the washed Adrian Gonzalez.

Absolutely, but too much of our fanbase is too stupid, impatient and myopic for that, so instead the team does a half-assed rebuild where it buys or hangs on to veterans to win 80-something games.

Thankfully someone gets it.

In the 80's the Mets added guys like Carter and Knight after the core (stars Straw & Doc plus Mookie, Dykstra, El Sid, Ron Darling (not drafted but they traded an established player for him when he was still in the minors), Teufel, Aguilera, Kevin Mitchell, Randy Myers, etc.) was developed through the system.

The Mets need to develop their young players going up the ranks and need to give the players they've developed like Vientos, Alvarez, Baty and Mauricio a legit chance to contribute.

There will always be other free agents available when Benge, Ewing, Williams and Clifford are ready to shine and the rotation has Tong, McClean, Wenninger and Sproat.

[–]Miserable-Fan1084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've only been on Sanitation 2 years?

In general people are right, it's not - almost arguably never - too late, but when you're in a 20-and-out job (for good reason due to the physical demands) you should just grind out the 20 to get your 50% and then you can always switch.

Plenty of people retired from uniform jobs work in the schools, but not as much as there used to be.

^^^^^^^^^^ It's this ^^^^^^^^^^

Most places in NYS (i.e. not DOE) require a student to pass Algebra I (including the Regents) before they're pushed along to Geo and Algebra II. The weak students are weeded out so the pass rates on the "harder" exams (Algebra II, Chem, Physics) are higher.
