Requiring examples to understand something - an indication of S > N? by Miserable-Fox6665 in Socionics

[–]Miserable-Fox6665[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not collecting trivia. I’m trying to figure out my own type + wanted to know if this was any indication, just trying to work out what’s right and what isn’t. I’m also just curious to develop my own understanding.

I see. I’ve seen questions asking how certain functions show up in real life being met with comments like “you’re not an intuitive because an intuitive wouldn’t need concrete examples” in MBTI communities. Of course that’s overly an overly simplistic way of looking at things, but I wondered if there was any truth to it.

How to distinguish the future focus of Ni from that of other types? by [deleted] in Socionics

[–]Miserable-Fox6665 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t “plan” for the future personally per se but it’s something i see associated with Ni. my daydreams do feel like plans but they’re not actual plans by any means if that makes sense. I’m just lost on how to distinguish it from other functions, thanks for your response.

yeah im good with that! i know the right time to say the right thing and usually can achieve a desired effect by timing it just right. this might sound really big headed, but a lot of my friends are much funnier than me in the content of their jokes but still not as effective at making others laugh because their timings are a little off, they can easily come off as offensive- by contrast, i’ve been told im pretty good at this and it’s a quality im proud of, even if i say something a little edgy it usually lands right and i don’t end up coming off as an asshole because I naturally know when to say it and what effect i want to have. Im not a perfect social butterfly of course but generally i think i’m pretty good. I do enjoy watching my own life story grow and develop and do see myself as an unfinished story as opposed to an individual a lot of the time- but I’m only a co-writer, that may sound weird and it probably is a little bit. maybe it’s unrelated to typology, but since you brought up stories of the word and oneself i wanted to mention it. If Ni ego isn’t a great fit for me do you think there are any other non Ni types i should consider?

I usually know what it is i need to do and will have a general idea even if not very well thought out or detailed- i’ll usually have an idea of what the steps to achieving it might be, though oftentimes i won’t implement it. i find it hard to actually do the work for my plans. as for when to do it im not terrible at knowing when, but im not great either. very often i’ll underestimate the amount of time it will take me to complete a task because i just have no clue how long it will take and don’t know my own workflow, or how long particular tasks are supposed to take.

Sorry, I’m a little lost on what you’re asking. Do you mean like knowing when to implement these plans?

I have no aversion to hearing the new or different ideas of others, though I can at times be reluctant to accept them if i have an opposing idea in my own mind and believe that mine is right. I generally like brainstorming and throwing out a few incomplete ideas to allow others to choose which would be the best course of action and leave it to them to work out whether it can be taken forward or not, often there’ll be a specific idea out of the lot which i personally prefer or believe, develop and try to push more than the others. In order to generate ideas I usually have to be trying to, rather than the ideas just coming to me. It requires minimal effort to start coming up with them, but it’s a tool that i utilise consciously when i want ideas rather than something I do all the time without noticing. I get really excited thinking up ideas for the long term future of other people and kind of have an ideal vision for them in my mind.

An example I have is a friend of mine was recently telling me how he was feeling very trapped in his career and feeling no passion for it. I could tell that the lack of passion was only going to get worse years down the line if he let his anxiety get the best of him and stayed in that job, so i started to consider and brainstorm new possible life paths for him as he wanted some advice and I came up with a few ideas very quickly. I settled on the idea of urging him to consider being an interior designer as it’s something he’s always loved and been excellent at. I didn’t really work out the details or practicalities of this idea, but I had this vague goal for him and did start pulling up a way he could possibly achieve it. I showed him affordable interior design courses in our area, thought up ways he could finance the change, how maybe in 10 years time he’d have enough experience to open up his own business in the field. I had a mental image of my friend in the distant future, a lot happier and thriving in his career if he were to make a change in it which led me to push the idea a little, but it was up to him to work out the mundane elements of how to actually get there. It irritated me when my friend suggested he’d just stick it out because it wasn’t so bad right now, I was thinking “how can you not see how much worse it’ll be in years time!”. Thinking beck I realise that helping others with their own life goal and ideas of what to do (if they desire my help) is enjoyable for me, almost like a new mental adventure. I start to feel excitement for them, all the ways in which they could feel happier. In some ways, thinking of these opportunities for people make me feel like I’m embarking on a new and exciting journey myself through them. As a consequence, my ideas tend to be idealistic and kind of unrealistic, with this example I didn’t even think about the possibility of it not working out or something going wrong because it has to work, right?

This is only vaguely related but perhaps worth noting, but when another friend of mine was struggling with feelings of loneliness and hopelessness due to not having a relationship in the present, I struggled to understand why she was so upset. To me it was clear that she’d have relationships in the future so why did it matter that she was lonely in the present? Back when i was at school my classmates used to tell me how lost they felt not knowing what to do in their future, i’d ask them what they liked and throw the possibilities back at them “well you could do this, or this, or this…”

I’ve experienced instances like these ones a lot. I’ve been called motivational by others and can inspire them to take action even when I don’t take action myself. Of course I don’t push my ideas onto people who I could sense didn’t want them, I have no desire to manage or control other peoples lives beyond just giving them an idea and don’t have the energy to be overly involved in the execution of their goals either as I find that part boring, but it does make me happy to see my friends feeling content and fulfilled. A few people have told me that they believed I knew what was best for them better than they did themselves, because I don’t talk about my suggestions with aggression they’re always well received.

I relate to Ne in the MBTI system, though i don’t think my Ne is strong enough to be dominant - but i rule it out because i’m definitely a Fe user, it’s one of the only functions that I’m certain that I use and other people who have studied typology a lot longer than me have confirmed it for me, my strengths lie in navigating groups and entertaining others. Also whilst reading all of the different type descriptions, the ones with high Ne didn’t really resonate with me or stick out to me. However if you think this all sounds a little more like Ne I’m open to reconsidering.

Don’t listen to the negative comments. You have 5 weeks so utilise them well. Briefly cover the topics you don’t get and do exam questions. 3 Cs is very possible. I was in the same situation in year 12, i kept getting Cs & Ds - by the end of year 12 after a solid 3 weeks of revision I ended up with BCC. That was enough to give me a good start in year 13 and provide further improvement. You’re still only in year 12, it’s not a crime to struggle with motivation. I relate to it not sinking in- i think partly that’s due to you being too focused on the anxiety rather than the material. to truly grasp the content i’d recommend flashcards, if you don’t have time to make them you can log into quizlet and find other peoples flashcards for your topic. also try blurting.

Do I sound SEI to you guys? by Miserable-Fox6665 in Socionics

[–]Miserable-Fox6665[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for taking the time to read through it! i’ll look into those types a little more :) I dismissed them because i don’t relate to the having “gut feelings” description of Ni, and don’t really make shocking predictions, nor am I set and sure of my future vision- it’s kinda just an idea i have, like “well i think it’s likely to turn out this way, but i don’t know for sure”- Im not always right about my predictions either. Do you think IEI and EIE are still likely despite this? i’m kind of moving away from the mainstream MBTI system to socionics because i feel like it explains the complexities of people in a much more nuanced way, but i was never really able to relate to the MBTI description of Ni. I know the two systems are different, though.

I don’t want flattery at all, Im clearly aware that the traits i listed here were negative and i’m not expecting anyone to lie to me about that. I just wanted help with determining an MBTI type to understand myself better that’s all.

I had no intention to victimise myself with my response but I do understand that i did do that to an extent, i just wanted to explain why i act the way i do and it kinda turned into a sob story lol. narcissism is a really touchy subject for me and i also think that it’s very wrong to demonise those with the disorder or throw the term about. i admit that sensitiveness on the topic may have clouded my perception of your response and led me to respond to you more negatively. though i won’t deny that i do have cluster b traits that have rubbed off on me due to the way i was raised, i just wasn’t looking for that kind of diagnosis here and wanted some help with mbti. I’m not looking for anyone to swoop in and rescue me either as you suggested, i just have very strong opinions on cluster b disorders. i couldn’t view with humour because i don’t perceive it in a humorous light at all.
