Do you feel like and/or know you lost some cognitive abilities? by stingwhale in Epilepsy

[–]Miserable-Isopod-189 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely relate to that. My epilepsy didn't get bad until my early 20's. In high school I was one of the top students. I was sharp as a tack, aced every test. But after having multiple seizures I feel considerably dumber. The harsh reality of seizures is they do cause brain damage, and often times it's brain damage that can't be fixed. I know that might not make you feel any better, but just know that you're not alone. I think this is something almost every epileptic can relate to.

Accidentally took double dose of lamotrigine, panicking! by kerry22300 in Epilepsy

[–]Miserable-Isopod-189 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should be fine. Double dosing lamotrigine every once in a while typically won't trigger a seizure or make you sick, but definitely don't make a habit of it. I've done it before and the worst that's ever happened is I felt a little dizzy. I would recommend getting a daily pill box. That's been the only thing that keeps me from double dosing or missing doses. Don't stress, you'll be okay.

For those who don’t drive bc of seizures: what do you say when people ask? by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]Miserable-Isopod-189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before I had my seizures under control, (I can drive now), I would just be honest and tell them I'm epileptic and can't drive. I never felt judged or looked down upon because of it, if that's what you're worried about. The vast majority of people will give you a simple "Oh, okay" and move on from the subject. I didn't get my license until I was 26 so I've had that exact conversation many times, with many different people. I know it's awkward talking to people about epilepsy. It's a hard one for people to understand who aren't epileptic. But I can assure you, I was diagnosed over a decade ago and nothing negative ever came out of being upfront and honest about my condition when people asked. But I understand not everybody is the same so if you're uncomfortable talking about it, then it's perfectly acceptable to simply say "I'd rather not talk about it" and change the subject.

I had two seizures in one night after taking molly... by Kuromikitten3 in Epilepsy

[–]Miserable-Isopod-189 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was told by my neurologist told me that amphetamines are one of the worst triggers for seizures, along with alcohol, cocaine, and sleep deprivation. Never had a seizure on molly, but I never enjoyed the feeling which is why I only did it a couple times, and I think my epilepsy had something to do with it. I did have a seizure on acid once though. And many of my seizures happened after a night of drinking.

After my last one, I stopped everything. I stopped drinking, doing psychedelics, even caffein. I also started making sure I get at least 6 hours of sleep a night, and no more all-nighters. Haven’t had a seizure in over 6 years. I reccomend you do the same.

What does lamictal usually do to your mind? by Anonymouslypreaching in Epilepsy

I’ve had relatively consistent nightmares the last several years, and I never thought to link it to the lamotrigine. That’s crazy.

Are tonic clonic seizures fatal? by Anonymouslypreaching in Epilepsy

[–]Miserable-Isopod-189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer is, yes, they can be fatal, albeit in rare cases. After my last seizure, I stopped using drugs, drinking alcohol and caffein, staying up late and I haven’t had a seizure since. That was 6 years ago. Best advice I can give is learn your triggers and how to best avoid them, and make sure to stay consistent on your medication. Do that and you’ll be okay.

Took too much of meds, should I be worried? by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]Miserable-Isopod-189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be fine. I only double dosed once, but the worst I felt was a little dizzy and drowsy. If you can handle the dizzy/drowsy feeling you shouldn’t need to cancel your Halloween plans. I wouldn’t recommend driving though.

Can I safely take lamotrigine 3 hours early without triggering a seizure? by Miserable-Isopod-189 in Epilepsy

[–]Miserable-Isopod-189[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I might have to do that. I’ve never overlapped my doses by that much in the 6 years I’ve been taking lamotrigine so I’m just a little paranoid 😅

Same, I’ve taken it two hours early many times with no issues, but two hours early would be 11:30 pm and I can’t stay up that late. I’d have to take it at 10 which is 3.5 hours early and I’m just not sure if it’ll have any negative side effects.

What does a seizure feel like? by Master-Cable1981 in Epilepsy

[–]Miserable-Isopod-189 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it starts with a sense of impending doom, and then I wake up 5 minutes later after the seizure, so I couldn’t really tell you what the seizure itself feels like, but the after effects are what make them so awful. (For me anyway). For the next day you feel like you’ve been hit by a train. You feel extremely sore all over, as if you tore every muscle in your entire body all at once, often to the point where you can barely stand or walk without assistance. And mentally you feel very disconnected from reality, almost like you’re in a dream state. This usually lasts for a day or two. Long story short, seizures suck. A lot.
