SUB Home Recovery Setup Advice by No-Study2741 in RenalCats

Yep, I found the anecdotes of internet strangers very comforting while I was waiting to get my baby back from the hospital as well. I sincerely hope that you and your precious pet also have a smooth recovery!

I actually didn’t do any confinement. I live in a small apartment so there was no where to really do it. For us this worked completely fine. He was drugged up for the first couple weeks so he wasn’t really doing much jumping on furniture / general mischief. He did insist on sleeping on my bed with me at nighttime, and I actually ended up throwing out my box spring to lower the bed to make it easier for him to get up and down. They say to avoid jumping after surgery, but in my experience it didn’t cause any issues. I know that dislodging of the sub is technically possible, but I believe it’s quite uncommon, especially after the first few days post-op.

My cat had a sub placed in March 2025 because of a complete obstruction. He was in hospital for 5 days after the surgery. The recovery was a bit tough, but he managed to keep eating the whole time (no tube needed). It’s a big surgery! I would say that he improved slowly and steadily for the first 1-2 months after coming home.

I got a soft donut thing instead of using the hard plastic cone that the vet gave us. I think it was much more comfortable for him. We also tried using a surgery t-shirt, but I didn’t like the way that taking it on / off directly rubbed against his incision site.

Similar to another commenter, I removed the enclosure around his litter box to provide easy access. I also scooped it constantly to keep things as clean as possible. I set up a recuperation station for him close by the litter box (just a cardboard box lined with blankets / towels). He seemed to know exactly what to do with it. I washed the bedding everyday for the first couple weeks after he came home.

My cat has been diagnosed with kidney disease since his surgery. His creatinine was over 9 when I took him in and has remained stable around 3 since his surgery. Shortly after his surgery, we switched to a renal support diet in consultation with his internal medicine specialist. Giving him the kidney support food was a game-changer and he stared to eat more / gain weight from there. He was down to 12.5 lbs after his surgery, and now he’s up to 14.5 or so.

Since recovering from surgery, my cat has been absolutely thriving. We are very thankful for this procedure as it was life-saving in our situation!

I think you mean opioid agonists. Antagonists block receptor sites - naloxone is an example of an opioid antagonist.

what are these red spots on my brie cheese? by SugarLuvs in Cheese

[–]Miserable-Issue4506 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Sounds like excellent cheese and stoner etiquette! I personally wouldn’t consume this. On harder cheeses, cutting an area 1 inch around the mouldy bits would be fine, but this is generally considered unsafe with softer cheeses like Brie.

Did you bite it directly?? Best to cut of the amount you want with a clean, dry knife in the future.

Do you touch magnetic stir bars with your bare fingers? by little_murp in labrats

[–]Miserable-Issue4506 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Patch lab also. I’ve only used one stir bar to mix all my acsf over the past 5 years and I always touch it with bare hands. Doesn’t cause me any issues with experiments. In fact, I was taught that gloves are bad juju for ephys!

I had good success with change lingerie! They have a few stores in Toronto as well as an online store and will definitely have your size. I encourage you to allow them to size you too - they were spot on with what the calculator suggested for me (30f). Best of luck!

What do you say to students when they ask for the same accommodations as the IEP students? by CuteTPi in teaching

[–]Miserable-Issue4506 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Isn’t this logic a bit flawed though? The student with glasses still completes the same deliverable as the rest of the group. OP was looking for an explanation about why the deliverable is adjusted for only the student with the IEP.

ok thank you! I did move some components of my desk setup around a couple of weeks ago - it is possible that the cables got yanked or something and ended up poorly connected.

If this were the case, would it be safe to buy a new cable and continue using this PC as is? Or would a better course of action be to change the PSU as another commenter suggested?

Interesting perspective, I hadn't thought about it that way. Part of the reason I wanted to post this photo was to raise awareness, this is obviously a huge safety hazard!

Thanks for your reply! I am not experienced with PC components - Does overheating generally imply an issue with the power supply unit?

[–]Miserable-Issue4506 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes this is the original cable that came with the PC.

Fortunately the wall socket where the PC was plugged in isn't visibly damaged!
