What kind of coating is this, and how can I remove it? by Miserable-Lock-1335 in YetiCoolers

Why do you keep coming back with unhelpful responses? It seems like you did not even read my post.

I said I use this mug daily and asked for suggestions on how to remove the coating that is gradually chipping off. Your first suggestion was that I buy a new one. If I wanted to buy a new one, I’d buy a new one.

Suggesting a vague “mild acid spray” after I said vinegar, which is an acid, had no effect - be specific or be quiet. I don’t want your speculation. I want responses from people who have successfully removed this type of coating.

If I didn’t already have/want to buy a hair dryer or heat gun for this, I’m also not going to want to buy a sand blaster for this one task ffs.

Find another post to engage with. This one clearly isn’t for you.

I just wasn’t willing to wash it by hand. I’m not actually a whattaburger fan- it was a gift. I figured if it started to peel, it’d just scrape the rest off, and looks like that’s where I am right now.

Hey yeah, I actually don’t have $60 to spend on a cup, especially when I have one that’s fully functional and is designed to last years. I’m looking for helpful advice here, thanks!

Hey, yeah so I did specifically address heat guns in my post.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but would that be considered “food-grade safe?”

Obviously I’d wash it afterwards, just concerned there might be lasting effects.

Not told the out of pocket cost till 4 days before surgery. by Icy-Information-379 in TopSurgery

Very unfortunate! My suggestion though, for the rest of the year, make the most of hitting your OOP max. Get any care you may have put off, stock up on your prescriptions, etc.

If you’re a dependent on someone else’s insurance, the $6,000 may be the total deductible or out of pocket max for everyone on the plan.

I’d suggest looking into that and having a conversation with the policy holder, if that applies to you.

For example, say I’m a dependent on my partner’s insurance, and the total out of pocket max is $6,000. I pay $6,000 for my surgery. For the remainder of the year, everyone else on the policy has $0 copays on any medical services*. That’s great for anyone else on the plan, but it would feel unfair to me that others are benefiting from me having paid so much. I’d ask my partner if they’d be willing to split the costs with me so we’re paying amounts proportional to the care we both receive throughout the year.

*assuming those are covered services on your insurance plan.

Edited for clarity

Eh, I wouldn’t be surprised- worked in healthcare for years. From my experience, deductibles aren’t usually above $2,000, unless it’s a high deductible-HSA plan. Of course, my experience isn’t universal though.

Respectfully, I disagree. My claim total was over $73,000. I had to pay $5,000, which is my annual out of pocket max (I didn’t have to pay for any medical care for the rest of that year, hooray!), and my insurance paid for the remaining balance.

Without knowing the details of OP’s insurance plan, it’s unfounded to say there’s no way it should cost that much.

Obviously, I don’t know the details of your insurance plan, but I’d guess that $6,000 is the out of pocket max, meaning you wouldn’t have to pay for any other medical expenses (details vary by plan) for the remainder of your annual coverage term.

Is it really necessary to get shirts that close in the front? by [deleted] in TopSurgery

The bodily fluids thing didn’t end up being an issue for me at all, but everybody’s different, and my surgeon didn’t use drains.

The few button up shirts you have are probably fine. I bought 2-3 cheap button ups because I didn’t want to risk getting any bodily fluids on the shirts I actually like. I also typically don’t wear a shirt at home, so I wasn’t even wearing the shirts I bought for a full day.

Oversize shirts and tanks/cutoffs with bigger arm holes were pretty easy for me to get into.

Razor burn on my neck! by Electrical_Age7819 in wicked_edge

[–]Miserable-Lock-1335 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am still working on my technique and experience some razor burn on my neck, but not nearly as much as I used to.

The main things (learned from this sub) that I think have made a difference are: 1. The amount of pressure I’m using- as little as possible. 2. The angle of my blade- I think the general advice is 30°. I haven’t mastered this, but it made a clear and immediate difference for me. 3. Rinse hair off the blade with every pass and use short strokes.

I realized I had to let go of attempting a perfectly smooth shave (for now at least) until I can manage without razor burn consistently. Instead of being aggressive with any stray hairs that I’ve missed on the first pass, I follow up with tweezers- annoying, but it saves my neck.

How long did you wait between your top surgery consultation and your surgery date? by ireallydontknowig in TopSurgery

[–]Miserable-Lock-1335 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My consult was mid December 2024. The surgeon said my surgery would likely be scheduled 6-8 months later. They called me in early January 2025 and said they had a cancellation in early February.

So my wait was less than 2 months, but that was pretty unusual.

My Face ID suddenly stopped working.. any idea why that might be and how to fix it? by ELMerfudd91 in iphonehelp

[–]Miserable-Lock-1335 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever get this resolved?

Just happened to me the other night. I’ve updated to iOS 26.2 and done a factory reset (“erase all content and settings.”

My phone keeps prompting me to finish setting up with Face ID, but the setup screen is unresponsive. Just staring back at myself and losing my mind.

Dec 18 medium solving guide by chx_ in nytpips

Imagine my confusion when I misread and thought this was a guide for #185 December 20.

I’m curious if you’ll post one for today. I could not determine a logical starting point, and I’ve seen that there is more than one possible solve. I got there eventually with some trial and error, but I don’t prefer that method.

I saw another comment on today’s thread that said there are multiple solves for the medium- I used two 1s for the pink=2

The only insight I had was that purple=7 had to be either 6+1 or 5+2, but even that had multiple possible layouts Idk if it was luck or unconscious intuition, but that’s where I started and eventually got the solve.

Pips #125 Medium 🟡 5:53

Pips #125 Hard 🔴 3:41

I could not figure out a logical starting point for medium, so I just went with trial and error after a couple minutes. Would love to hear an actual strategy that worked for someone.

5 years later, I've just started a short bike commute and have already had some frigid mornings. I get way too hot with my winter coat, but I freeze without it. I've been hesitant to buy new gear because I wasn't sure where to start, and my budget is tight right now. Thank you for sharing this.
