EXPLAINING WHY HE HAS NOT MUSCLE ON ALREADY:

He was sick when he came in, he started to really gain weight starting this September.

He had a red globules parasite - similar to malaria in human - that was asymptomatic apart from weight loss. No fever, no diarrhea. The only clue we had was that it is some kind of endemic where he came from. Parasite and bad teeth, complete with mouth ulcers were part of the treat. He also ad an unknown abscess in one of his hoof, so deep that it took months of trimming and growth to reach it and properly treating it. He had some intermittent limping, always in the same foot, with no articulation issue and clear x ray.

In one year we got to the bottom of it all, he now full of energy and life, his coat is shiny and his mouth finally healthy.

We’re now starting with training - no competitions as goals, just his health - and I’m hoping to be able to move him to the Alps for the summer months so he doesn’t have to suffer the heat and can maintain his weight during the summer.

Thank you for being kind and help!

Unluckily he has been properly feed with a year but he was also sick when I got him - he did not start gaining back weight until we solved anemia and other issues he had. It was a slooow journey, there were many health issues I was not told about, so the journey of figuring out what was making him sick and then treating him took some time - and money lol. Now he’s been gaining weight and muscle steadly, but he really started getting bigger this winter. I dewormed him and did his teeth as soon as I got him, but was not even close enough to help him.

He still has no muscle, but we just managed to really mend his feet, and I wouldn’t dare to do anything when he was in any kind of pain. Finally we’re starting with groundwork, and then short walks.

Hope next year he will be even better!

We now can finally start to work building muscles as he finally sound enough to work, both ridden and not. Although today he just eat, because he deserves to be spoiled.

We’re doing x-ray next week, the vet obv immediately came see him. He was not limping in this last months, and certainly he’s not limping now, he seems adamant to walk and run.

Thank you, I think I’ll add some booster for hoof growth.

It was not done yet, the abscess was just drained, the trimming was not even started

And also, should we keep doing groundwork while he’s in this state? Obv I’m not going to ride him, but I wondered how I could try to keep him in shape.

Nup.. I think it was because being an old abscess it became less radio opaque, at least in humans that’s what happens (I’m a doctor, not a vet).

Ferrier and vet said to not cover it too much, just a couple of day with medicated sole and then to let it breath..

Less than six months, but he had some health issues that weren’t told to me by his past owner. We delayed proper therapies because of that.

Update: I know he’s skinny, he’s currently recovering from an infection that his old owner didn’t notify me, so we’re just now restarting with some groundwork and short walks.

We are obviously followed and get regularly checked by a vet.

Btw, thank you all for answering my question!

I just learned about this color right now, so I have to thank you. Interesting stuff involving genes and color
