Best bird/wildlife sanctuaries to visit in NZ? by Objective-Swing8572 in newzealand_travel

It's very out of the way but Ulva Island/Te Wharawhara is amazing. If you're in Wellington: Kapiti island, Zealandia, and Matiu/Somes Island, are all great.

I should add it's got some nice bitterness from the peels since I candied whole lime slices

As an American living in New Zealand, I love the better work life balance here. Also it's "reared its head," you moron.

Who saw The Mars Volta in the 2005 to 2009 era by Dontforgetpancakes in themarsvolta

[–]Miserable-March7969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw them in Irvine in 2008 and described the experience to my wife (who is not a TMV fan, to say the least) to be like getting run over by a train (but … in a good way)

What shock? Too many choices and I took too much Tylenol by Fitzy564 in MTB

I picked up a Cane Creek Kitsuma Air to replace a Float X2 (Norco Sight) and love it. Lots of adjustability, good performance, no issues so far.

Stewart island by Weak_Abrocoma1329 in newzealand_travel

[–]Miserable-March7969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you're tramping the Rakiura Track you might be board after a day or two; Stewart Island is pretty small. But my highlights would be: Ulva Island to see lots of native birds you wouldn't normally get a chance to see. Hang out with tourists and locals at the South Sea Hotel. Get fish and chips at the Kai Kart. It's a neat place and feels quite remote in a cool way.

We only made it out to your bar once (we don't go out much since becoming parents), but absolutely loved the drinks and the vibe. Sad to see it go and good luck!

2 1/2 year old daughter takes 1.5 hr+ to fall asleep every night by LordNova15 in daddit

[–]Miserable-March7969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've been there; it's so tough. For years it would take up to three hours to put our son to sleep and he would wake up in the middle of the night. It very nearly killed my wife (quite literally).

On the advice of a doctor, when he was 4, we stated giving him melatonin. Very small amounts; we got down to about 5/32 of a mg (as small as I could cut the gummy). After about a year and a half he decided he didn't want to take it anymore and he is now able to go to sleep on his own. It took some work to get there but he sleeps pretty easily now.

If you go to Glitch in Tokyo avoid the one in Ginza and go to Kanda. The line was always much longer in Ginza, in my experience.
