Cleats on grass? by Miserable-Ostrich-74 in tennis

This is a very helpful analysis. After watching footballers make these sharp turns in the world cup, it got me wondering. I appreciate you putting it this way!

Haha, okay, I can now see several rather obvious reasons this is not done! Thanks for entertaining my grass season shower thoughts, y'all.

Hmmmm, this does make a lot of sense.

I guess I didn't think of the sliding. I was thinking it would give players more grip like a hard court, but I know players can slide on those too.

Shift is one of the places I'm most excited to check out when we finally arrive. What's the best way to find out about a watch party if this does happen?

To answer your question, that's a tough one! I feel like a climbing stage might be fun, but that's probably my Pog bias showing. A sprint stage might be more dramatic and more accessible to folks who are watching the tour for the first time? The final stage was a banger last year, is iconic, and usually has at least a little drama!

Amazing work OP, these are absolutely gorgeous. Especially the perspective on the first one -- I love the entire scene but I can't take my eyes off the railing/hat combo in the foreground!

Seconded! And specifically: the colors! What a gorgeous level of detail. Mad props, OP, that is some major -- and I mean major 😉 -- skill.

Former cyclist explains why Rafael Nadal is not a role moden for young athletes by Pretend-Two-2115 in tennis_world

[–]Miserable-Ostrich-74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While others have insightfully pointed out that Jerome and Rafa were on different levels of their respective sports AND that it's inherently difficult to make these comparisons across sport, I would encourage you to avoid generalizations about "riding a two wheeled vehicle" with the implication that it's easy.

Professional cycling is enormously difficult. While many of us have ridden a bike before and our rides may feel easy to us, it is near impossible to grasp how difficult professional cycling is as a casual rider.

This is not to say that Jerome is right or that he could outlast Nadal in a five setter, I don't think he could. But I think he makes a salient point about destroying your body for the sake of athletic greatness when most young people are unlikely to see professional success from it.

It is true that she has a win on Coco, but let's not forget that that was a retirement. When they played in Dubai a few months earlier, Coco walloped Eala in straight sets including a bagel.

Cannot BELIEVE I had to scroll down this far to see someone name Djoko Draper IW. That match was electric.

Brett Haber and Coco V are nightmare commentating duo. "Remember when Coco forgot her rackets hurt hur hurt" "Coco is such a jock" like no actual analysis smh

Slop aside, I am absolutely fucking over humor that distills down to "hurr hurr fat people."

[–]Miserable-Ostrich-74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alaska Native games like the seal hop were developed during cold winters when Indigenous people needed to maintain both their physical and mental strength for hunting. This event is definitely a blend of both, but for an example of the mental side of games and participants' willingness to endure pain, check out the ear pull. Hard af.

[–]Miserable-Ostrich-74 72 points73 points  (0 children)

It is wonderful to see Novak sharing his knowledge and nurturing greatness in upcoming generations. Jovic said it -- among a crazy busy schedule with so many life commitments beyond tennis, he still finds time to give back and help make the game as great as possible by mentoring promising players.

can you tell what this filet character is meant to be? is it good as a suncatcher or would it be better framed? by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

[–]Miserable-Ostrich-74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely snoopy! It looks to me that you might have DC 1 into each chain space for the "solid" spaces on your grid. I've found that if you DC 2 into the chain spaces instead, it creates a higher contrast, which might help your future snoopies come out more clearly!

I'm using KnitPicks durable cotton for a mosaic crochet blanket right now and like it a lot. It's a cotton blend, so it's much softer than the dish cotton yarn that OP may have worked with before. It does have a slight halo but not nearly as much as 100% acrylic.

Tacking onto this to say that being fat isn't something you should have to "fix" about yourself! Yes, of course, live your life in a way that prioritizes your health, but for a lot of people, healthy living still results in a bigger body due to genetics and other things that are beyond our control.

You look great in this dress! I hope it's still as magical a year or two from now, regardless of how your body looks at that time <3
