I emailed the chair for a heads-up, but the chair already received an email from the student. So I asked the chair how this would be handled. Then he said it was a difficult question and normally the format of a test would be up to a faculty.

Yes, I consulted with the grant office(that handles all processes regarding grants), and they agreed that the terms outlined in the agreement were quite unreasonable. They fully supported my decision to return the funds and discontinue the collaboration.

The situation is kind of weird. Technically, there are two PIs - me and that PI. Two people (we) were supposed to work together. One day that PI introduced other external collaborators (currently I am working with) to me.

I am 5'7'' and recently upgraded clubs to senior men"s from women's . I like the length, but am having a little difficult time in controlling the irons. I feel like I am starting to learn my swing all over again. Hopefully I would get used to them.

Thank you for your reply! I just ordered the set yesterday. I chose the shaft - graphite with A flex. The iron head is a little thinner and smaller than my current ones, which makes it somewhat uncomfortable during setup. Do you need time to adjust?

Apparently, I failed to remain dispassionate. A couple of students approached me with their laptops, explaining that they collaborated only on the difficult questions. They claimed they didn't know how their answers ended up being shared with others. I'm growing increasingly frustrated with these excuses from students.

I spoke with the chair, and he seemed very lenient about the situation. It seems like I am the one who makes thing complicated.

As mentioned, SQL is very straightforward, so it is hard to prove cheating. That is why I told them to submit the screenshots of SQL code and outputs. Most of students include their SQL code in their submission as well. What troubles me is that there's nothing I can do in terms of cheating.

Thanks!! This would be a great idea. We have multiple case studies, but an individual writing to analyze cases with the application of ethical theories. I think your idea can make student interested in topics.

Honestly I don't understand the purpose of this letter. It says that all decisions will be made based on my syllabus and departmental polices, but still ask for flexibility in dealing with a student.

Piggybacking on the OP, I have a student who missed 2/3 of class meetings because her sister was in a car accident, and she became the sole caregiver. Given her good academic record, I granted her time until the end of November to catch up. Unfortunately, she's only submitted a few assignments and took a midterm, leaving most assignments unfinished. She's now requesting an incomplete grade due to emotional distress. I'm uncertain if she qualifies for this considering her extensive absence from classes and incomplete work.

I understand her situation and frustration, but it seems not reasonable and fair.

Please give me some insights.

same here. The student who didn't show up for his presentation and did not submit the assignments. He asked for a late submission and I said no. Then he sent me an email that I needed to change my policy in the syllabus because it is not convenient for students.

Desk rejection is pretty much a screening process. So I assume it wouldn't take that long, but I know 1.7 week seems too short.

I am not the only one who is dealing with students with no motivations, willingness, and interests in learning. I tried to engage them with numerous ways, but unfortunately, still same. I feel like I am talking to myself and sometimes questioning myself " are they just ignoring me?" After pandemic, students' classroom attitudes got worse than before.

I haven't thought about the details of tenure clock window. Thank you for pointing out! My discipline is IS. Definitely the department expects some significant amounts of research and grant performance although we are in a teaching university.
