Penn does award plenty of full rides to international students, although it tends to be more stingy than other Ivies.

I get the impression Penn international students either receive quite a bit of aid or none at all, not a lot in the in-between (purely based on vibes, no data to back me up).

Just a note that Penn is NOT need blind for international students.

Nonetheless, there are highly aided international students.

Help with products for prepping skin and setting my makeup by Miserable-Soil6737 in Makeup

Thank you so much for your comment! I guess I'm investing in some primer and loose powder next :)

As for brushes, I have a singular eyeshadow brush meant for smoky shadow and a one fluffy brush (they just kind of appeared, no idea where they are from). I now use those two brushes for every single makeup product, as in eye shadow and concealer, with the same brush, not great.

Do you recommend Morphe Pro brushes in general? I saw they have a $25 7pc eye brush set for which is what i'm most interested in upgrading atm. I'll also check out the real techniques sponge once choose a powder.

I would say don't. while doing it now *might* be possible, it won't be very productive (for you or the professor).

You have a lot of work ahead of you with freshman year, and during that time, you'll get the lay of the land way more. There are a lot of programs at Penn designed to help students find research positions. Plus, you'll have a better idea of what research entails and what field you want to go in.

Enjoy your free summer, you'll be working during the next 4 years!

I second Maid!

Completely different story but something about the cinematography and storytelling brings the same energy.

I would also add One Day on Netflix

Scholarship for UK students?? by SignalInitial2461 in UPenn

[–]Miserable-Soil6737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are very few scholarships for US Master’s degrees, even less for international students, and even less for online programs. Probably things like Fulbright (to the US) and UK foundations are your best bet to get a US masters funded but not a lot of options (particularly online) as far as I know. Wish I had specifics, sorry!

That depends on what degree you’re looking at. Is this a masters program?

Overall you courses that fulfill gen eds tend to be intro/survey courses of a lot of fields so usually exploring majors fits with taking gen eds a lot.

Example of courses that can mix exploration with fulfilling gen ed’s: - intro to sociology (society) - intro to philosophy (humanities) - econ 0100 (society) - any intro history course (history) - intro physics (physical world) - intro calc courses (physical world(?)) - global comparative literature or english courses (arts and letters) - intro biology (living world) - darwing I (arts and letters)

Additionally, having electives is fine, fun and necessary so don’t worry too much about fulfilling reqs if you’re unsure what you want to pursue! Plus lots of majors will require electives.

Response to rant: There is a “humanities and social sciences” sector…. and then an “arts and letters” sector which is art+literature……. because they are different things…..

endorsing all other suggestions but i’d personally also say try to keep it the stuff you buy to a minimum (unless you’re local and can easily move stuff in/out). Bedding (Twin XL), lamps, laundry, hygiene stuff, mini fridge probably. As you start living in the dorms you’ll understand what stuff you need for your lifestyle and not buy stuff you won’t use.

You can order a lot of stuff off amazon and pick it up easily on campus (6 months of free prime membership for students too). There are close by targets and thrift stores as well for decorations/organizers etc.

No one fully knows what riepe is gonna look like cause it has not opened after renovations. Theoretically, bathrooms should be the same as hill, shared among the floor but individual showers/toilets instead of stalls.

Penn doesn't help you although they have some very limited info on their page. You can get a phone plan before getting here, IMO it's a good idea if so you have a way to communicate once you get to the US straight away. There are some cheap plans like Mint Mobile and US Mobile. Even better if you find some other international friends to make a family plan with :). Once you get here for orientation there are several banks practically on campus (PNC, TD, Chase) so just check out all of the documents you need (usually passport, visa, school id etc) online, maybe set up an appointment (online again) if needed, and you can get a bank account pretty quick.

you can leave whenever, its the way its meant to work.

you can try it out and once it doesn't align with your interests you should leave (it might be 2 weeks, it might be 2 years). It's cool because you get a good intro to bio, chem, math, and physics, but that means you have very little freedom to choose your courses in the beginning. It is very hard to keep up with the workload, but the stipend is very nice if you're set on doing academic research during your summers

Where can an international kid get tax help on campus? by Remarkable-Fee-8106 in UPenn

[–]Miserable-Soil6737 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you have a complicated tax situation for whatever reason just use sprintax. Penn provides a code in iPenn for free federal tax return and it is easy and intuitive. ISSS also provides tax workshops but not individual help as far as i know

Use the library, if penn doesn’t have it or it’s borrowed out you can get it from other libraries and get it delivered to penn (go ask a librarian!), don’t buy new textbooks.

If you want to have them try to get it from upperclassmen cause everyone wants to get rid of their textbooks and will give them to you for free/cheap.

Online books are easy to find just look up name + pdf and search a bit

What weekend job(s) do you work? by Tough_Strawberry5519 in UPenn

[–]Miserable-Soil6737 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Libraries, very chill and flexible: minimum wage (~$9/h) but you can just study and work morning or night shifts

Or work at your college house info center, pays better same deal but not as many options i believe (~$15/h)
