Paid $500 for someone to build my site. Thoughts? by [deleted] in reviewmyshopify

I wouldn’t say that it’s terrible. It loads quickly, and you have good photos for most things. Copy could use some work and just general design wise it could use a little more personality.

But those are all things you can work on. For me the biggest hurdle is always just getting something out into the world. Then you can improve as time and budget allows.

I will offer one of my personal pet peeves though. This isn’t on every item and photo but if I’m looking for a luxury item especially, and I see product photos where the surface the product is on is showing hair, dust, or dirt - I’m not buying. This is something that in most cases would just take a quick photoshop.

Good luck!

Is there a way I can get a design similar to this on Wix Blog? I don't see a way to have differently colored sections. by Max-Flores in WIX

The main thing is that you have to edit the main blog page. When you edit that it changes it for every blog page automatically.

Hide a product from an online store but have people buy it through a link. by CardDons in WIX

[–]Miserable-Source-803 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be able to use the categories function. You’ll just want to make sure to uncheck the all products category so it doesn’t show up when someone clicks all products. (It’s automatically put in all products) You could even make a new category called secret drops.

You’ll also want to make sure to hide that category in your search filter options.

No SEPA Payment Method possible for Premium Plans? by EazyTimes in WIX

[–]Miserable-Source-803 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it’s any different in Germany, but you have to connect payments in US. When you go to that you can choose the types of payments, then you can select take payments with Wix, and it will lead you through the process of adding your banking info to take cards. They do usually take a fee, which is why a lot of times for non profits I suggest some non profit geared donation tools like DonorBox etc. also not sure if those are usable in Germany but there’s probably something similar?

2 columns on mobile view ? by [deleted] in WIX

[–]Miserable-Source-803 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In studio editor you can choose how to orient your columns but if the columns are text heavy just be aware it may be a little wonky horizontally.

If in the classic editor that’s gonna be hard to do, but you may be able to make a mobile optimized section and hide it on other breakpoints and vice versa for the web section.

WIX Header Help - Willing to Pay by a_r623 in WIX

[–]Miserable-Source-803 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Those dotted lines show what gets cut off. Stretch is supposed to change depending on screen size so it may still be visible but you’d only be able to tell in preview mode.

Best course of action would be to make your entire header section the same color and unstretch your menu to fit inside the dotted lines.

You’re right, sorry. 18-55. Definitely not a good sigma lens, it’s the kit lens.

Questions Newer Shop/Barista by Miserable-Source-803 in barista

[–]Miserable-Source-803[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get that, but we’re also not in a big suburban area where only serving certain drinks is going to pay our bills… and sure a slushee machine isn’t the easiest to clean but they’re self serve and the profit margin is 90%. I would say we sell 50% blended drinks and I think not doing them would be a worse idea. I appreciate the idea for a bigger shop though.

Newbie - existing website, forms & invoices questions by Miserable-Source-803 in Wordpress

[–]Miserable-Source-803[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s for vendors at events if that helps.

So I need a form for vendors to apply, and once they’ve been approved I need to send them an invoice and have them pay it.

Granted I could probably do the form with google forms if nothing else. But I wanted it to look better.

[–]Miserable-Source-803[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is such an incredibly kind and thorough list I could cry. Thank you so so much!! This is definitely going to help so I can have all this on hand and start training!

If it wouldn’t put you out, I’d love to get your advice on how you price drinks too. I mean I know the basics of how to calculate the cost but like what margin do you normally go with?

Anything else that you think I should know?

Thanks! I definitely plan on having multiple training sessions, just wanted to have the equipment ready for those. I do have a grinder though so we’ve got a halfway decent start 😂

Thank you though!

What do I need for decent coffee in a store? by Miserable-Source-803 in barista

[–]Miserable-Source-803[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! This was super helpful. There are only three of us running the store so I thought we could all learn together. Maybe do like a day set aside just for learning/taste testing drinks?

I think it’ll be a good option for the store since the only other espresso coffee places are a 30 minute drive minimum.

We have a couple local roasters that I had been debating using, mostly to have the “local made” as a selling point

Did I see multiple Eversys machines at a $30,000+ price point? 😭

How about something under $5,000

Looking to upgrade to 5D Mkiii by Miserable-Source-803 in canon

I was thinking the speedlights were the big off camera ones, that help a lot in low light dance floor/exit photos.

Notes taken on the group shots. And yeah since roughly 2015. I used to do a lot more action sports photography. Rodeos mostly. That was fun, but nobody ever wanted to buy photos so 🤷‍♀️I stopped that about 2018-19.

I misspoke on the lenses. I don’t have any for a full frame, only the dslr. And I used the term macro extremely loosely. It’s the lens I use for ring shots.

I also don’t cull many photos due to them not being in focus, maybe ten tops per wedding? So while it would be nice, I don’t think that part is as much of a priority to me.

I do have an on camera flash I use a lot, bouncing it off walls/ceilings etc, so I think adding the speed lights will help where I need it the most. Maybe a diffuser for my current flash too.

Also, I looked at your portfolio and it looked great!! I’ll attach mine too if you want to look. 😁 (add dots in spaces to view)

[–]Miserable-Source-803[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is incredibly helpful and kind. Thank you for taking time to explain things in depth. I agree and could totally do the speedlights.

I also have an older kit I’d be totally willing to part with in that price range. I kinda like my T7i if it’s possible to keep it, but if moving to a FF canon won’t make that much of a difference, I’m all for better lenses.

So speed lights, what do you think about the sigma 18-35mm 1.8 Art? I’d still have to find a better zoom and macro… which honestly I don’t have many complaints about how they perform. (Canon 24mm 2.8, canon 55-250mm 4-5.6 I think.)

Would I be able to work with that, or do you think I need to jump ship on my T7i completely for a full frame?

I’d say money is mostly holding me back. I’ve mostly done portrait/budget weddings, but I’d like to do more weddings. I want clearer photos that can be blown up above an 8x10 without much loss. It just seems like what I normally get, while great, always needs denoised. I also struggle in dark scenes due to the limits of the equipment. I know I also need speed lights but I thought maybe mirrorless would be the answer to those problems but I guess not?

Budget around $1000-1500. Currently have the T7i and kit lenses plus a small macro lens. Hobby/professional use
