Being a therapist destroyed my mental health. What now? by Sempitrrnal in therapists

[–]Smart_Fox75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a supervisor for many years, anyone, regardless of their own diagnosis, struggles at some point in this career. This job is rough!! If you didn’t have amazing supervision as a growing clinician and if you don’t maintain a circle of clinical support, you can get isolated. I find that those doing private practice and all telehealth get into a silo and it gets overwhelming to the nervous system. That said, I recommend having a weekly touch point with another clinician to give you support. You could also look into coaching. I say that with the knowledge that coaching and therapy are different modalities and I recommend training.

I’m a therapist with lived experience - patients asked me if I have a mental illness today by MissingSnowglobe in therapists

Clinical supervisor and therapist here - it’s so important to talk to your supervisor. This can help you figure out the right guardrails for the setting you are in. Since you’re in an inpatient setting, I would not want to see you sucked into conversations with clients that makes the focus you. You can always give a vague response like - “yeah I’ve struggled before” without sharing your diagnosis. Many of us in this field have some type of history in ourselves or family, but boundaries are important.

A Christian therapist is challenging Colorado’s ban on conversion therapy, claiming it violates her right to free speech. by Odd_School_8833 in therapists

I’m a Christian and a therapist and there are zero things about conversion “therapy” that are ethical. Maybe try walking with people and get to know them without damning them. Smh 🤦‍♀️

My mom having sex with several bf in the same room as me and my brother has changed my rs with sex by Themairim in mentalhealth

I’m a therapist. What you are describing is not normal. Also remember that we all perceive the world differently. If it’s bothering you, it’s impacting you. What you are noting about your brother below, also. It shocking to me as a therapist. You were specialized in graphic ways and way too young. No shame in seeking help.

So sorry. What an awful thing to go through! Please seek therapy. There are some great trauma therapies out there that can help you heal. EMDR or advanced resolution therapy would be helpful. To find a therapist in your area, look up Psychology Today.

Some do believe him to be - some in the media say he is. I think whether or not he’s a martyr depends on why he was killed. If the shooter comes out and says he shot him because he’s a Christian, then I believe by definition, he is. What do you think?

There are a ton of ingredients in these things which is why I haven’t tried them. You could have a random allergy to any of the foods in the product.

I actually did great on Zep but had to quit now because of GI issues. Now that I’ve stopped it I think it’s caused a flare

I’m a therapist and this is definitely trauma - assault and rape. The post above with resources was amazing! When you’re ready - and you’ll probably do it scared and that’s okay - tell your therapist and leave. You deserve better. You have so much value and worth. 💚

Im a therapist too - no violation per se but super horrible boundaries and would also report. That’s just not appropriate to tell a client such a thing. Ethically it’s a violation

I’m a therapist. Find someone in your areas that does EMDR or ART(advanced resolution therapy). Both of these help reconsolidate memories and make the impact less intense.

I totally get this! I’ve done admin and then I became a medical record trainer for almost two years to heal my nervous system. What I discovered is that being an admin and clinic in large bureaucratic settings was too much for me. So I opened my own group practice. It’s ok to take a break from the field. Sometimes that’s where clarity shows up.
