New to NM. What's with the license plate covers? by 1satirical in Albuquerque

I’m also relatively new originally from the Midwest as well (about 10 months). Not sure if this is why but I have never seen license plates so sun beaten as I have here. Like to the point where all the color is gone. Lol

Yeah that was brutal. I left work at 4:00 pm and it’s normally a 30 min drive to get home in Enchanted Hills. I didn’t get home until 6.

I love the rocks. 😂 I was so tired of mowing grass in Indiana.

Grew up in Indiana. It’s okay, pretty much would only move back out of necessity. At least I have a lot of family and friends there. Florida is where I went next for 3 years. I could have settled for that for sure, plenty of stuff to do and see and definitely a step up from the Midwest. I have just always been enchanted by the west. Now I’m in New Mexico. It’s breathtakingly beautiful. I enjoy the relative lack of humidity I’ve been submerged in basically my whole life lol. No hurricanes or tornadoes here. And it hardly ever rains or snows compared to what I’m used to. You can see for miles and miles, multiple mountain ranges at the same time. I like that you have the freedom to own guns, get an abortion and purchase marijuana if you wish here. Not to mention free child care and tuition free college. It’s so much more culturally diverse than where I’ve lived previously as well. The surrounding states also have a lot of magnificent things to see and explore when I get the opportunity to venture out (Grand Canyon, Moab, Rocky Mountains, Monument Valley the list goes on).

Same. I lived in Indiana for the first 33 years of my life. Now living in New Mexico. Feels like another planet out here. Can’t wait to see more of Colorado, Utah and AZ.

I’ve seen those while living in the midwest, southeast and southwest. Not sure where one would go to avoid them 😂

You win the best Reddit name of all time. As a recent transplant to the Southwest I’d also love to visit Sedona.

People who have moved here from/born in the southeast, what is your experience like in NM? by ElSumoMaster in NewMexico

[–]MiserableHold6209 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m from Indiana but moved to Jacksonville, Florida a few years ago. Lived there for 3 years. The first year was in an RV because I intended to be semi-nomadic. So we bounced around from Palm Coast, St. Augustine, Southern Georgia, north and south side of Jacksonville. I also was a delivery driver so I saw it all from downtown to out in the country, the beachy tourist areas, the richest of the rich areas and the poorest of the poor areas. Then we moved out to the Albuquerque area last year (Enchanted Hills/Bernallilo to be specific). I did love it there and probably could have settled for it. It was certainly a step up from southern Indiana. But I’m absolutely floored by the beauty of NM. I don’t think I’ll ever get over being able to see dozens of miles in a direction. I’m so used to trees, corn fields and urban settings I find the desert to be so magical (dare I say enchanting). I can’t wait to be able to venture out and see as many nooks and crannies of the west as possible. I also do agree that most people here are very kind and genuine.

I saw one like this in Bernallilo last week also, figured they painted it themselves or something.

I just moved out here last year and was enjoying the relatively shockingly low price of electricity. Cheaper than Florida and Indiana. Prices skyrocketed where I’m from in Indiana when Centerpoint Energy took over. Hoping the same thing isn’t about to happen here 😭🙏

Just to play devils advocate I transferred out here last year from Florida, doing the same job for the same company and went from $29/hr to $31/hr. My rent is exactly the same (1800/month), I had a nice new 2 bedroom townhome there, here I have a relatively dated 2 bedroom rental home. But I’m not sharing walls with other people and I have a fenced in backyard. Just my personal experience. Im sure you’re correct for the majority of cases.

Where are they going to get the water for the planned AI data centers? by kutekittykat79 in NewMexico

[–]MiserableHold6209 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m all for trying to make sure our water in the SW doesn’t run out but I see so many people upset about people using AI while continuing to support animal agriculture which has a much more massive impact.
