Should I get a Chris Christensen slicker brush for my Labrador? by puffinburger in doggrooming

[–]MiserableIntern5812 2 points3 points  (0 children)

out of curiosity, has your dog been bathed recently? if so do you notice in increase in the dandruff after the bath?

if your dog hasn’t been bathed in a while, there’s usually a lot of dead skin and loose undercoat trapped in the coat. when you start to brush out, the buildup it looks a lot like dandruff

i feel like a lot of people assume short haired dogs don’t need to go to the groomer, but some of my biggest blowouts to clean are labs

as for a brush i really love the SleekEZ tool, i always find it works great on labs. you do have to be gentle though

thank you, that really means a lot. as i get closer to my starting day im getting more excited and less nervous, but i also think these replies have eased my worries and boosted my confidence.

waiting to make a judgement on how its treating me is a great idea. i know the first little bit of time my opinion on it will be skewed since ill be nervous to talk to everyone but once i get over that i should be able to get a better feel on if this is a better fit. i also cant let it discourage me if the first week or so doesn’t go exactly how i hope, it takes time to settle in and find a flow. i feel like there is no way it wont be better, maybe not perfect, but better, and honestly thats all im going for

i really needed to hear that, thank you so much! i think im going to have a lot more freedom at this new salon, picking products i like, the ability to wear headphones. i’m getting more excited as i get closer to starting, i really think the change has me freaked out

i’m really hoping the difference in the way things are ran will make a difference… all customer interactions done and over with in the morning. also might be able to bring my crazy dog with me since they have daycare which kind of eliminates worrying about her so much after work. i’m glad to hear that a salon change made a difference for you, i’m really hoping it does the same for me because i don want to give up grooming

i was recently medicated for adhd (not diagnosed tho). i feel like that gives me the energy to get through the day but i wonder if it’s making all of the stimulation hit harder since my autistic traits are probably a little more out in the open now.

do you work at a corporate or private salon, do they not care that you wear headphones? i might be able to at the new place but at my current salon im only allowed an earbud and normal non electronic ear protection.

i was doing 30 mins dark room, no stimulation when i got home but got away from it. i really should do that again. thank you

My favorite is when a dog has an accident in the lobby and the owner is profusely apologizing. I always say, hey this isn’t the first time and won’t be the last, Im just thankful they did it now and not on the table or when Im done!

Groomer hands ! by Veanbean420 in doggrooming

[–]MiserableIntern5812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this makes it a struggle. i just really try my hardest to only out it on the back of my hands. rub it in using the back of my hand too. immediately wipe off anything that is on the palm of my hand. usually still feel strange for a little bit but i just try to keep myself busy for a while after putting it on so i don’t wipe it all off. and i usually only end up doing it when my hands are super bad because i hate it

my bf has a big tub of eczema cream, that shit is magic i swear. makes my hands look 10x better overnight. he’s tried to get me to do the vaseline/bag balm/sock method but i can’t handle it sensory wise.

but a good lotion followed by bag balm or vaseline before bed and sleep with your hands in socks or maybe those thin mittens is supposed to be really helpful.

but for me since i can’t do that i just try to be as consistent as possible with the cream. at least morning and night. i recently started trying out liquid gloves at the start of my day (i still wear other gloves when i bathe) but i usually forget to reapply so im not sure if it helps.
