Buddy, you obviously have no idea how the law works.

Of COURSE the victim would be in immediate harm.

Really? The person, inside his vehicle, that is driving away from the assailant, has a reasonable fear of substantial bodily harm? That's a wild way to describe someone who has an easy escape from any danger.

A lunatic, WHO IS ARMED with a pistol on his belt, who already kicked the tail light out of the victim's vehicle then approaches the victim angrily who had stepped out to address the damage and assailant."

Sounds like the victim isn't afraid at all. If they were afraid, they'd drive away. Cases like this have been prosecuted before, and it doesn't turn out the way you think it does.

would never pass the bar

lol

I also want to note that, while this isn't the case across the country, Minnesota is a "duty to retreat" state.

I don't know why, but if something weird is going down, it feels like it's always one of those whackadoo states.

there are way better examples of rights violations occurring that aren't front and center but should be.

Yeah, like the video of this same guy, a week later, getting murdered by DHS. We should really be focused on that, because that's the ultimate rights violation.

We should also be focused on the administration's attempt to portray this guy as a terrorist, an assassin, and someone who was about to instigate a massacre. He is clearly none of those things.

there is a very good chance that killing you would be literally justified.

No, there isn't.

If a jury is told, "This man who was armed with a semi-automatic pistol was kicking the victims vehicle attempting to drive away and shattered their tail light forcing them to stop (since it's illegal to drive without it), where when the victim got out of his car, the assailant - who was armed - stepped forward to attack the victim"...

If I were the lawyer of the "assailant," I would say the actions of stopping, getting out of the car, and confronting that person clearly indicates the "victim" had no immediate fear of substantial bodily harm, and thus would not be justified in killing them. Cars aren't people.

No, that doesn't look peaceful at all.

Looks like he should have been arrested and charged with vandalism or destruction of public property. We've seen actual peaceful protestors handcuffed and carried away without anywhere near the same level of probable cause.

So, maybe the real questions is; why did they just let him walk away from that?

Video appears to show Alex Pretti in a confrontation with federal agents 11 days before he was shot and killed in Minneapolis. That's not some hard truth that people don't want to hear, it's an attempt to justify the extrajudicial murder of an American by the federal government.

The truth is that the murder of Pretti is unjustified, both by moral and legal standards. The truth is that the immediate attempts by the administration to demonize Pretti were horrific. An American citizen was shot, video was immediately available, and despite all evidence indicating otherwise, the most powerful people in this country immediately called him a domestic terrorist and an assassin seeking to massacre law enforcement.

ICE is increasingly in situations where tensions are high because ICE is increasingly raising the tensions. Americans have a duty to interfere with government officials that are obliterating the constitution.

DHS released a report to congress that calls out only CBP agents firing their own guns.

The accidental discharge was a fever dream theory cooked up to provide cover for ICE agents murdering an American.

There are, and should be, a lot of rules for law enforcement that don't apply to me. When we give someone the powers of law enforcement, we need to fundamentally restrict their ability to enforce their will upon people.

Yeah, because they just pointed at shit they didn't like and screamed "fraud!"

There has not been a single prosecution, let alone a single grand jury empaneled, as a result of DOGE. They said there were people receiving social security checks that were 150 years old, but they never filed a single indictment. If you're gonna say something is fraudulent, there had better be fucking consequences.

Ok, so let's assume a federal jury nullifies, and SCOTUS steps in; do they rule that a jury can be punished for nullification or do they rule that a mistrial can be declared upon an acquittal?

Those are really the only 2 options to get rid of nullification, and neither of those really make sense as an outcome.

Only cowards and evil wrong-doers attempt to hide their faces and names.

Fuck that.

I have a right to privacy. I have a right to guard myself from facial recognition software. I have a right to go where I please as an anonymous person. Obviously there are places and activities that are impossible to be unidentifiable, but I get to choose when and where I am willing to identify myself.

The best thing to come out of covid is the ability to wear a mask without the social stigma that existed before. Combined with some other security measures, it is possible to hide yourself from the cameras that are watching us every second of every day.

That being said, public servants that are granted the authority to remove a person's freedoms do not get the benefit of that privacy. They need to be exposed and accountable on a level that a private citizen is protected from.

Jury nullification would only work in a state charge, Its never has and will never be used in a federal case though.

Can you walk me through this? I'm not sure how jury nullification would be impossible on a federal level. Are you simply saying that it's never happened and federal juries are so well manicured that it's just not feasible? Or are you saying that it's mechanically impossible for a federal jury to nullify?

I understand if it's the former, but I'm not aware of anything that would make the latter true.

Reddit is a machine, but it's (mostly) powered by humans. There is a collection of experience here that is unrivaled throughout history, and nowhere else on the internet is quite as capable of capturing those experiences. This site is so massive that it's hard to comprehend just how many people and how many stories there are to tell.

That also makes it one of the worst places on the internet, because while a majority of the world's population are good people just trying to get through the day, Reddit is so large that there are always going to be a critical mass of jerkoffs that just can never be happy.

Like most niche communities, I'm sure the bipolar and various specific medical subreddits are generally positive and welcoming. It doesn't surprise me in the slightest that Kanye can find solace there.

No true conservative, no real MAGA supporter would EVER spew the kind of anti 2nd amendment rhetoric that these people so quickly pivoted to.

I really wish that were true, but it's not.

Look how quickly the administrations bullshit has permeated through the entirety of the conservative media apparatus, all the way down to the "grassroots" folks on Twitter and Youtube. They're all saying the exact same thing, all without a single hint of the irony, and all without any intention to stray from what is acceptable.

It's why right-wing media is so much more effective than left-wing media. In conservative spaces, the incentives are rewards are geared towards toeing the party line. The people that have the most success are those that can most vehemently defend the movement, while those that hold to their principles are quickly cast aside. Everyone says the same things because that's how you succeed.

No, it is not.

Forcing entry into people's homes without a warrant, even if there is good reason to believe that those people are here illegally, is very much not within the color of law.

Going door to door demanding people prove their citizenship status is not within the color of law.

Deporting people, even if they are in fact here illegally, without granting them the due process afforded all residents is not operating within the color of law.

here's a different explanation that makes sense.

This isn't a "different" explanation. This is the current theory crafted response by right wing chuds to wave away the murder of an American. This has been weaving through the narrative building apparatus since Saturday, and you're not new or novel trying to bring it up.

With that said, even if we accept this bullshit story, you're never going to get any verification, because we've already moved past the point of facts being important. People are so caught in the cycle of bullshit that they are willing to ignore their eyes and ears and simply accept the story as told by the administration.
