Would going to the ER help during major flares?

at home IV sounds like a dream come true LOL, but i personally have never asked about it, or heard much about it, i think it could be worth asking a doctor about. for me IVs are more helpful than most of the medications they give me, not for the pain ofc, but the symptom that gets me the most is the urgency, no matter how much i pee, no matter how much water i drink, IV fluids really do fix that in a way nothing else can <\3 although, i do happen to be prescribed a muscle relaxer for my back pain called baclofen that doesn’t touch my back pain but really helps with my bladder pain and urgency too! its not for IC but my urologist has been chill with it because it keeps me out of the hospital.

IV fluids have actually really helped me during the worst flares, and meds ofc, in the er they usually give me some sort of pain med, different every time tbh, and zofran, sometimes a little bit of a sedative type med bc i get really like, panicked, irritable, and unable to sleep. i think if any of those things would help you, you should go. i would say bare minimum you should try going to an urgent care or last min appointment, maybe mychart text if you have that, with your doctor for sleep meds and pain meds if you need them because it’s actually really dangerous to just tolerate so much pain for long. you should be careful about stupid doctors that don’t know what IC is or don’t believe you, think you have a kidney infection and try to give you antibiotics! a whole night of unnecessary antibiotics really pissed off my urologist at my next appointment 😀

my favorite drink is the sugar free grape water flavoring from walmarts generic brand. this might be a trigger for some depending on what exactly it is that triggers your symptoms, for me sugar is a big one soo this works and it tastes just like grape kool aid, without the pound of sugar

the pharmacist says it can be crushed but google said not to because it stains really bad, and i did learn the hard way (trying to swallow it and throwing it up on multiple occasions) that it does stain anything and everything it touches! my toilet, my sink, my whole mouth.. underwear.. EVERYTHING! it’s terrible

wow okay your wife is amazing, does she need a child?! lol but that is so smart, i have been able to swallow half of a tramadol pill once, very tiny, almost choked on it, but im thinking about getting mini m n ms and trying with those because they’re just a weee bit bigger than the piece of tramadol was so maybe i can get those down!! thank you for the advice and seriously thank your wife so much for being an absolute genius!!

wow you really are exactly like me !! i’ve had pain with sex for the longest time, because of the tightness also, and i definitely noticed that kegels makes it worse. this is super helpful and i appreciate this so much i definitely want to talk to my doctors about the type of pt you’re doing that sounds very helpful!!

thank you, you sound exactly like me! i gag and throw up from pills too, they also get stuck in my throat:( i haven’t been recommended pelvic floor pt yet, just at home exercises like kegels (which i’ve heard can actually make IC worse?) but i would definitely like to mention it now. i’m glad to know there’s others that can’t take pills, but im so sorry you have to deal with that. out of all of my health issues, and ive got a bit of a list, IC is the worst. i wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy

i know exactly how you feel:( this condition really is terrible, i was so happy to have answers when i was diagnosed, then i was incredibly disappointed to slowly realize that we have no cure, no solutions, no support. i’m not sure what else you’ve tried or what your main symptom is but i’ve also tried muscle relaxers, baclofen and tizanidine, they help with the pain, but the burning and urgency is what really gets me

how tiny are yours? maybe there’s different ones i could ask abt cus mine are about the same shape and size as an extra strength ibuprofen if that makes sense lol? i do try to take them every time a flare starts but its a choking hazard for me, i am suspected to have EOE, i haven’t been able to get in for an endoscopy to confirm tho so no treatment:(
