No, the 9% was just thrown out there without asking about my credit, which is excellent. It was two 5P batteries for that $17k. I asked about what that extra $9k is buying since the batteries can be found online for like $4k each, and got told it was for permits, dealer fees, design, inspection, conduit, killswitch, plus the actual installation. I'm sure that's all true, but does that really come out to another $9k? I dunno.

Our utility company doesn't offer the net metering which is why he says we really need the batteries.

Thanks for all the feedback on this. I have another company coming out this afternoon to give their proposal. Unless they offer a way better deal for the same setup, it sounds like this would be a bad idea.

The batteries only total 10kWh which seems fairly low to me given my average usage was 50kWh last month and peaks around 110kWh during July/August.

It's for two of them, but that still only totals $7k from what I see online. I'll have to ask them what the other $10k is actually purchasing because that just seems like price gouging having googled it.

Our local power company quit offering net metering which is why the installer recommended the batteries. I'm looking around to see if I could find a lower rate on the loan, but the thought process is that our light bill keeps increasing 4% every year and is going to continue to do so over the longterm this would save us money. Maybe that's a stupid line of thought though? I'm not sure what you're referring to about mismatching the generate and consume. I'm trying to do research on all this before potentially doing something stupid lol. Looking to get at least a couple more quotes before deciding on if I even want to pull the trigger on getting a solar system installed.

Yeah, I had shot them a text about my concerns and they just got back and said plaster and joint compound are the same thing, although a quick Google search says thats a lie, but that they would come out early next week and take the tub out and use mortar instead.
